Nothing Good Comes from Biden’s EV Ploy, Only Bad Karma

by Larry Bell

The biggest economic push for electric vehicles (EVs) appears to be to move them out of dealer inventory lots despite government subsidy perks.EVs are now some of the slowest sellers on dealership lots. In September, it took retailers over two months to sell a plug-in, compared with around a month for gas-powered vehicles and only three weeks for a gas-electric hybrid. The slowdown is also problematic for taxpayers and car companies that are plowing billions of dollars into new battery … [Read more...]

Wind Unaffordable, Costs Common Sense

by Larry Bell

The Biden administration’s "Net Zero" carbon plan set for accomplishment by 2050 is predicated upon the assumption that America can transition away from hydrocarbons, which currently provide about 80% of our electricity, by increasing the 3% we get from wind and solar combined . . . with the vast majority of that from renewable friendly breezes.Image: Creative Commons under UnsplashFor starters, try to forget for a moment that wind and solar are unreliable, intermittent, weather-dependent … [Read more...]

No Net Benefit To EV Mandates, Gov’t Admits It

by Larry Bell

Buried deeply in the bowels of a 56,342-page Federal Register Volume 88 — along with an environmental assessment accompanying the Department of Transportation's newly proposed fuel standards — are some candid admissions that electric vehicle- (EV) promoting bureaucrats and subsidy beneficiaries aren't anxious for any of us to know about.Image: Creative Commons under UnsplashOne is that "Net [social-economic] benefits for passenger cars remain negative across alternatives."After factoring in a 2% … [Read more...]

Alarmists Turn Up Heat with Climate, Weather ‘Records’

by Larry Bell

Image: Creative Commons under UnsplashTedros Ghebreyesus, Director-General of the World Health Organization (WHO), wrote on X, formerly known as Twitter, "the hottest month [July] just ended. We witnessed scorching heat, extreme weather events, wildfires, and severe health consequences."He added, "It’s a stark reminder of the urgent need for collective action to address climate change. Let’s use this alarming milestone to fuel our determination for bold climate action."Together, we can turn up … [Read more...]

Biden Wages Terrifying, Suicidal War on Energy Security

by Larry Bell

The Biden administration’s new 681-page EPA-proposed regulatory rule limiting greenhouse gas emissions for coal-and gas-fired power plants. This is but the latest attempt to eliminate America’s fossil-fueled energy independence, prosperity, and global security.EPA’s Most Recent Attack on Fossil FuelsAlthough last year the Supreme Court blocked the implementation of the Obama "Clean Power Plan," which would have forced a power shift to renewables from coal, the EPA now wants to include natural … [Read more...]

Climate Cartels Plan to Cancel Single-Family Homes, Private Cars

by Larry Bell

Allysia Finley, a regular Wall Street Journal contributor, posted an article a couple of weeks ago titled "The Climate Crusaders Are Coming for Electric Cars Too," a prophesy consistent with a concerning social control trend I have witnessed as well.Image: Creative Commons under UnsplashIt's not that "green" lobbies have the necessary public support to succeed in consigning most of us to trade freedoms we take for granted for their enchanted "progressive" visions of ant farm utopia — … [Read more...]

Gore Climate Rants Return

by Larry Bell

Hyperventilating again last week at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland, former Vice President Al Gore claimed that climate conditions are even direr than previously imagined, with manmade greenhouse gases responsible for the worst climate disasters the world has seen in recent years.Photograph: Fabrice Coffrini/AFP/Getty ImagesNothing short of a nuclear holocaust, purveyor of planetary peril Gore said the current output of greenhouse gases is sending heat into the atmosphere that is … [Read more...]

Records Show Hurricanes Neither More Frequent Nor Severe

by Larry Bell

Whereas Hurricane Ian which devasted large areas of Florida was indisputably a monster storm, a basic review of history reveals that media hype connecting it to evidence of a recent “climate change disaster” is entirely unfounded.Having said this, let’s understand that no one, much less those of us who live in Houston and other areas along the Gulf Coast, need be reminded of widespread terror and tragedy which can be wrought by a single tropical storm or hurricane event. At the same time, let’s … [Read more...]

California Charges Forward with Energy Disasters of Biblical Proportions

by Larry Bell

On August 31, just days after Gov. Gavin Newsom announced a mandated switch to electric vehicles (EVs), the California Independent System Operator, which runs the state’s power grid, called for a Flex Alert asking residents to voluntarily reduce their power consumption by avoiding “large appliances and charging electric vehicles” during peak usage hours of 4 to 9 pm.The unforeseen problem, it seems, in addition to increasing power demands and anemic, unreliable wind and solar … [Read more...]

EU Fossil Follies Star Russia, China in Lead Roles

by Larry Bell

As I have previously discussed in this column, the European Union, and Germany most particularly, have gotten themselves into a self-inflicted energy shortage disaster in becoming heavily dependent upon Russian natural gas and oil while simultaneously opposing the Putin government's Ukraine invasion which they have good reason to fear may spread to NATO countries.Germany, a dominant EU economic power, relied on Russia for more than half of the natural gas and a third of the oil … [Read more...]
