Eco-Extremists Are Leading the World Towards Despair, Poverty, and Starvation

by Cornwall Alliance

This article was written by Dr. Jordan B. Peterson. Utopian solutions for saving the planet are doomed to failure - and worse. We must wake up before it is too lateThis winter, millions of British citizens, including children, will be tipped, or dumped, into energy poverty severe enough to risk permanent damage to their health. Cold, damp houses provide the perfect breeding ground for mold that not only causes respiratory distress but renders houses essentially unlivable once established. One … [Read more...]

Floods Are Nothing New

by Cornwall Alliance

This is a guest article by Viv Forbes. There is nothing unusual about floods, fires, droughts, homelessness, and hunger – they have always been part of the human story. But satellite technology allows us to track them better and our worldwide media revels in disaster reporting, bringing tearfully tragic scenes into every living room, every night.Population growth means that more people are affected by weather events, but there is no evidence that floods and droughts are getting worse.Written … [Read more...]

Misleading Infographic about Climate Change and Wildfires

by E. Calvin Beisner

Someone recently wrote to us, "Wondering if you can help me with this? I've gotten myself into a friendly debate with a family member on climate change and he sent me this infographic. His argument is that combustion engines are bad for the environment and causing things like fires to happen. What would be a good rebuttal to this?"Here's the infographic:So, how to respond? The number of problems in that graphic is amazing. Here are some quick points:Mark Twain said there are “lies, damned lies, … [Read more...]

 “Virtue science” reigns

by Christopher Essex

I was trying to preserve my sanity by avoiding the endless hyperbolic news stories on cringeworthy science-based policy. But, despite my best efforts, the tale of the Dutch farmers came to my attention. Those poor folks have their backs against the wall because their government has declared war on nitrogen! They might lose their land and livelihoods over this war, not to mention creating needless hunger in the world. Now Canada aims to do something of the same ilk to farmers here. … [Read more...]

Are This Summer’s Heat Waves Extraordinary?

by E. Calvin Beisner

Are they driven primarily by global climate change?Want to know whether this summer’s heat waves in the United States are extraordinary—nay, even unprecedented—due to manmade global warming?Where should you go for solid, objective data?Obviously, to the authoritative source, the Environmental Protection Agency. So you go to its page titled “Climate Change Indicators: Heat Waves.” Immediately when the page opens up, this is what you see:There you have it: decade by decade, everything goes up. … [Read more...]

A Tribute to Patrick Michaels

by E. Calvin Beisner

(Listen to this article on the Cornwall Alliance’s Created to Reign podcast.)My first contact with Dr. Patrick Michaels was around 2006 or 2007, in the early, formative days of the Cornwall Alliance for the Stewardship of Creation. I had, over the previous two or three years, read at least five or six of the books he had by then written or edited on climate change, and I highly respected him as a careful, humble, yet confident scientist, fearlessly standing against “consensus” and … [Read more...]

The Man Who Saved Your Economy

by E. Calvin Beisner

(This article, published on July 18 and reporting on Manchin's action July 14, celebrated his action. Alas, the celebration was premature. Abandoning his commitment to oppose any such bill until inflation declined, Manchin embraced a new bill July 27---two weeks before the new monthly inflation rate is to be published and despite the fact that most analysts agreed that the rate would either rise or remain unchanged. We are intensely disappointed in the Senator.---ECB, July 28, 2022)Recently one … [Read more...]

Could Glacier Melt Cause a Pandemic?

by Daryl Sas

“Bacteria species found in glacial ice could pose disease risk as glaciers melt from global warming.”Such was the headline at Phys.org for an article announcing that Chinese researchers obtained snow, ice and cryoconite from several glaciers; attempted to grow the bacteria they scraped up; and sequenced all the DNA they found. The article went on to identify four potential threats that could lead to a new pandemic:I think the risk of glacier melt causing another pandemic is greatly exaggerated, … [Read more...]

EPA Now Stuck Between a Rock and a Hard Place on CO2

by David Wojick

There are lots of happy reports on the Supreme Court’s ruling throwing out EPA’s so-called Clean Power Plan. Some go so far as to suggest that EPA is barred from regulating power plant CO2 emissions. It is not quite that simple and the result is rather amusing. EPA is still required to regulate CO2 under the terms of the Clean Air Act, but that Act provides no way to do that regulation. The Clean Power Plan attempted to expand an obscure minor clause in the Act to do the job but SCOTUS correctly … [Read more...]

The SEC’s Climate-Disclosure Rules Violate the First Amendment

by Sean Griffith

This article summarizes the argument of the author’s more technical article, “What’s ‘Controversial’ About ESG? A Theory of Compelled Commercial Speech under the First Amendment.”The SEC is on the cusp of enacting rules to compel companies to disclose “climate risk.” Commentators have critiqued the rules as misguided and beyond the SEC’s statutory authority. But the proposed rules have a more fundamental flaw that will doom them when the inevitable court challenges are filed. The rules … [Read more...]
