In a lengthy feature in its February 5, 2023, Sunday edition, the New York Times told the heart-breaking story of a young couple who lost their home to Hurricane Harvey. Written by Jake Bittle, described as "a reporter covering climate, housing and energy," the article was adapted from his forthcoming book The Great Displacement: Climate Change and the Next American Migration. The article claims that Harvey and other "climate disasters" destroyed hundreds of thousands of homes across the … [Read more...]
Green Billionaires Bankroll War on Gas Stoves
Image: Creative Commons under Unsplash What is the “Climate Imperative Foundation”? Have you ever heard of it? As Robert Bryce writes on Substack, “The Climate Imperative Foundation is the newest and richest anti-hydrocarbon, anti-natural gas group you’ve never heard of.” I recently discussed the issue related to gas stoves. In my investigation, I found the attack on using natural gas for cooking comes largely from the Climate Imperative Foundation. In its first year of existence, Climate … [Read more...]
Why the Sudden Attack on Gas Stoves?
No doubt you have heard the discussion that gas stoves are evil … because they lead to childhood asthma. I am not talking about “gasoline” stoves—and I do not recommend you cook with gasoline—but gas stoves that run on natural gas. You might have one of these “anti-children” appliances in your kitchen. I recently moved from a home that had a gas stove to one where I now cook with electricity … not because I have children who are likely to develop asthma but because … well, the new house does not … [Read more...]
FERC’s Role in the Offshore Wind Stampede
I am looking at a fat study titled “The Benefit and Urgency of Planned Offshore Transmission: Reducing the Costs of and Barriers to Achieving U.S. Clean Energy Goals." The term FERC occurs a whopping 92 times. Not surprisingly the 103-page report is mistitled. It is actually about the onshore transmission of offshore wind power, not offshore transmission. The urgency is that the present power system cannot handle all that offshore juice coming ashore. FERC is in the crosshairs because they … [Read more...]
Wind Farms Wrong for Right Whales
Wind energy is presented by climate alarmists as a planet saver – a friend of Earth’s flora and fauna. Nothing could be further from the truth, which is becoming more apparent with increasing deaths among whales along the United States’ East Coast. Image: Creative Commons under Unsplash Though dismissed by official agencies charged with wildlife protection, evidence is pointing to offshore wind projects as threats to whales, especially the endangered North Atlantic right whale. Wind … [Read more...]
Gore Climate Rants Return
Hyperventilating again last week at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland, former Vice President Al Gore claimed that climate conditions are even direr than previously imagined, with manmade greenhouse gases responsible for the worst climate disasters the world has seen in recent years. Photograph: Fabrice Coffrini/AFP/Getty Images Nothing short of a nuclear holocaust, purveyor of planetary peril Gore said the current output of greenhouse gases is sending heat into the … [Read more...]
Evidence Says Offshore Wind Development is Killing Lots of Whales
The recent deaths of seven whales off New Jersey, mostly humpbacks, got a lot of attention. The federal NOAA Fisheries agency is responsible for whales. An outrageous statement by their spokesperson got me to do some research on humpback whale deaths. The results are appalling. The evidence seems clear that offshore wind development is killing whales by the hundreds. Here is the statement as reported in the press: “NOAA said it has been studying what it calls “unusual mortality … [Read more...]
Are You Really Against Fossil Fuels? Read this Before You Answer
It is easy for anyone to say that they are against fossil fuels. Opposition to coal, oil, and natural gas is fashionable and will prompt heads to nod and even hands to applaud in most places. Image: Creative Commons under Unsplash But are people aware of the extent to which their lives are dependent on fossil fuels? Do they know that more than 90 percent of things used in their everyday lives are derived from fossil fuels? From your toothbrush to your car tire, a majority of the … [Read more...]
Recovery of European Species Contradicts Doomsday Narrative
As a young graduate student, I was thrilled to have my first hands-on experience in conservation on Portugal’s pristine grassland steppe, a paradise for avian life. It was during this visit that I came to understand the critical role of conservationists and the factors most affecting wildlife populations across the globe. A major takeaway for me was that the cause of population collapse among major species is overhunting and not climate change, the latter being the popular media’s favorite, … [Read more...]
Munich Re Cries Foul, Florida Policy Holders Quake
According to Reuters, Munich Re is complaining bitterly, along with several other pre-imminent international re-insurers about its massive weather-related losses during the calendar years 2021 and 2022. The role of re-insurers in the insurance market is simply to back up the many standard casualty insurance companies that may wish to deal off part of the potential liability from catastrophic losses (mega-claims) filed by their policyholders, who may sustain economic damage from one of … [Read more...]
