Earlier today we posted a blog piece, "Cracks in the Empire's Armor Appear," by Dr. Roy W. Spencer, that commented humorously on how the media have responded to a new study by climate scientists who heretofore have reliably toed the alarmist line. Observing that actual warming trends are far smaller than those projected by the computer climate models on which the U.N. Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change and various national agencies depend, the authors concluded that therefore there's … [Read more...]
Did Global Warming Cause Peat Wildfires in Greenland?
A friend of the Cornwall Alliance recently wrote, "I have been seeing things online about Greenland wildfires of peat being caused by global warming and I was wondering if you all have any resources that address this." A fairly up-to-date article about the Greenland peat fires points out that humans probably caused the fires (perhaps through carelessness) in vegetation that was parched from lower-than-usual rainfall. Although monthly average temperature in the location is up by about 0.8 … [Read more...]
URGENT: A Call to Prayer for Millions in the Path of Hurricane Irma
As I write, Hurricane Irma has reached Category 5, with maximum sustained winds of 175 mph. The National Hurricane Center calls it “the strongest hurricane in the Atlantic basin outside of the Caribbean Sea and Gulf of Mexico in the NHC records” (emphasis added). The NHC says Irma “will bring life-threatening wind, storm surge, and rainfall hazards to portions of the northeastern Leeward Islands beginning later today"; the Virgin Islands and Puerto Rico beginning tomorrow, reaching the … [Read more...]
Illinois Family Institute Posts Video of Dr. Beisner’s Presentation on Climate Change and Christian Responsibility
[This article is adapted from its original version on Barbwire.com.] Last year I was at lunch with an evangelist. After the meal, he handed our waitress a Gospel tract. I wanted to reinforce his compassion, so I told the young lady that her relationship with God was the most important thing in the world. She responded, “Yeah, that and global warming!” She proceeded to tell us that she wakes up in fear of what may happen to the earth during her lifetime. I was shocked. I asked her if she was … [Read more...]
Taking Politics Out of Climate Science
[Excerpted from the Washington Times] A red team, blue team match would test the assumptions of man-made global warming. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) administrator Scott Pruitt wants to adopt a red team, blue team approach to weighing the scientific pros and cons about man-made global warming. According to E&E News reporter Emily Holden, “Climate scientists express concern that the ‘red team, blue team’ concept could politicize scientific research” related to global … [Read more...]
Blame Global Warming for Hurricane Harvey?
In the hallowed tradition of Rahm Emanuel's "You never let a serious crisis go to waste," ThinkProgress followed Emanuel's advice when it wrote, "As of 10 a.m. ET on Thursday, Trump had posted seven tweets from his personal @realDonaldTrump account. ... Not a single tweet mentioned the potentially devastating storm or warned Gulf residents to prepare for the incoming wind, rain, and possible flooding." A frequent visitor to Cornwall Alliance's Facebook page who excoriates us at every … [Read more...]
Got Some Expertise on Climate Change? Here’s Your Chance to Bring some Balance
The U.S. Global Change Research Program is calling for nominations of review editors for the fourth edition of the National Climate Assessment. Qualified scientists, economists, and other experts who aren't committed to global warming alarmism (a view pushed by past editions, as illustrated by the screen shot of the USGCRP's NCA web page above---because everybody knows that anthropogenic climate change will bring more and stronger hurricanes???) should consider taking the opportunity to have … [Read more...]
Will Sun-Controlled Global Climate Cool for Next 50 Years?
One of the most hotly debated questions about modern global warming (roughly 1960--present) is how much credit (or blame) for it goes to the Sun, and how much to increased carbon dioxide in the atmosphere. The U.N Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change and "mainstream" climate scientists tend to discount the former and pin all or almost all on the latter. The Nongovernmental International Panel on Climate Change tends to discount the latter and pin all or almost all on the former. Studies … [Read more...]
Was Opening Weekend for Gore’s ‘Inconvenient Sequel’ a Flop?
Al Gore's An Inconvenient Sequel: Truth to Power opened in theaters last weekend. The documentary by the world's most famous spokesman for climate Armageddon, in a world in which Pew Research Center says people consider climate change tied with the Islamic State as the greatest threat to their nations, had a mixed performance at the box office. On the one hand, it ranked #2 for average revenue per theater ($31,206, behind The Battleship Island, which averaged $59,344). On the other hand, it … [Read more...]
Why Are Older Scientists More Likely to Doubt Climate Alarmism?
Back in 1984, Richard Lamm, then Democratic Governor of Colorado, gained infamy for having said the terminally ill elderly have "a duty to die and get out of the way." Such disrespect for age persists among Progressives. Bill Nye "the Science Guy," a major proponent of global warming alarmism, blames climate skepticism on age. "Climate change deniers, by way of example, are older. It's generational," Nye told the Los Angeles Times, adding, "We're just going to have to wait for those people … [Read more...]
