Christian Faith is Alive and Well in the United Kingdom

Vibrant Christian faith is alive and well in the United Kingdom, as Cornwall Alliance’s Dr. E. Calvin Beisner experienced when he spoke on climate change, energy policy, and Christian faith last night (December 14) at Watchorn Methodist Church in Alfreton, Derbyshire, England.

Dr. Beisner was the guest of Answers in Genesis–UK, which hosted the event in conjunction with Rev. John Peters, pastor of Watchorn Church. Alerted to the rare opportunity to hear a view about climate change that differs from the mainstream media drumbeat in the UK just as in the United States, people in the audience had driven as much as three-and-a-half hours to attend. Among them were teachers, workers from several Christian ministries, university students from as far away as the University of Durham (a 2.5-hour drive), and many church members and their families.

cornwall-alliance-products-make-awesome-christmas-presents-1Dr. Beisner shared his own testimony of having observed both extreme poverty and the beauty of creation as a child in India, which after his conversion to Christ God used to motivate him to the work that led to the founding of the Cornwall Alliance. He explained the importance of sound science and economics to assessing the nature and magnitude of the risks of manmade climate change and poverty and how best to respond to them. Demonstrating that empirical observations indicate that human activity probably causes less than one-third the global warming alarmists claim based on models, he explained that the risks are far less than claimed, while the “cures” prescribed for it—massive replacement of fossil fuels with wind and solar as energy sources—would trap billions in poverty for generations while pressing millions in developed countries back into it.

A lively question-and-answer session lasted late into the evening, during which people expressed their frustration at British government policies that had forced electricity rates to skyrocket because wind and solar couldn’t supply electricity as cheaply as coal and natural gas—both resources abundant to Great Britain—and at British media that failed to report all sides of the climate-change controversy. Many said they were greatly encouraged to know that the Cornwall Alliance was combining excellent scientific and economic research with solid Biblical worldview and theology to address the problem.

To arrange for Dr. Beisner to address your church, school, or other organization, learn more at our Speakers Bureau or email me, Megan Toombs, at Megan@CornwallAlliance.org. We’ll be glad to help!

Certified Consulting Meteorologist Anthony Sadar is one of those rare but valuable people: a rock-hard, data-driven scientist trained up before models became more important than the real world. He’s also an adjunct faculty member at Geneva College who carefully integrates his Christian worldview into all that he does. The result? Fine science integrated with fine Biblical theological principles.

In Global Warming We Trust: Too Big to Fail is his revised and updated critique of the climate-alarmist message, which he cogently argues is rooted in an anti-scientific as well as anti-Christian worldview that fails to adequately test theories by empirical evidence.

Non-scientists and non-Christians will appreciate it as much as scientists and Christians. With biting but restrained wit combined with punchy data and logic, Sadar, a Cornwall Alliance Contributing Writer and Advisor, takes apart the climate alarmist position piece by piece, leaving shreds on the floor.

We’d like you to have In Global Warming We Trust: Too Big to Fail and share it with others, so until December 31, as our way of saying “Thank you!” for a donation of any size, we’ll send it to you absolutely FREE. All you need to do is mention Promo Code 1612 and ask for In Global Warming We Trust: Too Big to Fail when you make your donation, whether at our secure online giving page, or by mailing your check to Cornwall Alliance, Cornwall Alliance, 3712 Ringgold Rd., Chattanooga, TN 37412. All gifts are 100% tax deductible and will help the Cornwall Alliance fulfill its mission  to magnify the glory of God in creation, the wisdom of His truth in environmental stewardship, the kindness of His mercy in lifting the needy out of poverty, and the wonders of His grace in the gospel of Jesus Christ.
