Philippians 2:1–4: So if there is any encouragement in Christ, any comfort from love, any participation in the Spirit, any affection and sympathy, complete my joy by being of the same mind, having the same love, being in full accord and of one mind. Do nothing from rivalry or conceit, but in humility count others more significant than yourselves. Let each of you look not only to his own interests, but also to the interests of others.
Heavenly Father, throughout the ages Your people, the redeemed of our Lord Jesus Christ, have been united in their minds on many things, yet also divided on many. We acknowledge that this is because our minds have not been fully renewed by Your Scriptures, and we confess that as our sin and ask your forgiveness, thanking You for providing it through Jesus’ shed blood. You have called the Cornwall Alliance into work that often requires pointed disagreement with some brothers and sisters in Christ. We pray that You will give us charitable spirits in such circumstances, yet at the same time the boldness to speak the truth in love. We pray also that those Christians who disagree with us will likewise have charitable spirits and strive to speak the truth in love. And we pray that, as has happened over and over again through the history of Your Church, patient and diligent efforts will lead to growing understanding, by people on all sides, of Your truths, that we might over time increasingly reflect the mind of Christ and represent Him fruitfully to a lost and dying world. In Jesus’ name, amen.
Ray McKendry says
Not rivalry but fellowship. Not straining forward to get what you want in life, but surrendered in your wills to Jesus Christ.
Nothing you do should be out of selfishness, or out of conceit.
In lowliness of mind, value others better than yourselves.
Don’t just look out for your own interests, but look out for the other person and find out what they need and what help you could be to them.
