This year the Cornwall Alliance has decided to kick off our Christmas giving season by participating in the global day of giving known as Giving Tuesday!

WHAT IS #GIVINGTUESDAY?

We have a day for giving thanks. We have two for getting deals. Now, we have #GivingTuesday, a global day dedicated to giving back. On Tuesday, December 1, 2015, charities, families, businesses, community centers, and students around the world will come together for one common purpose: to celebrate generosity and to give.

The hope behind this day of giving is that people will not just give (time, money, etc.) but also go public with that giving and encourage others to give as well. Since its inception, more than 30,000 organizations have participated, and online giving on the Tuesday after Thanksgiving has increased 470% since 2012.

There are three things you can do to help us with this effort:

1. Donate towards one of our three special #GivingTuesday campaigns (Please Note in the comments box at the bottom of the donation page whether you are supporting an intern, a fellow, or the petition.)

1. Support an intern—Many young people struggle to find jobs without relevant work experience in their fields. Internships provide relevant experience, and hands-on-learning for participants. Every $500 raised towards this goal will provide a stipend for a semester or summer internship.
2. Support a Cornwall Student Blog Fellow—different from an internship, the fellow will focus on writing articles for Earth Rising Blog and receive valuable hands-on-learning in the fields of editing and publishing online articles. Every $750 raised will provide a stipend for a semester or summer fellowship.
3. Support continued advertisement of the Petition: “Forget ‘Climate Change’, Energy Empowers the Poor.”—Environmental regulations that destroy energy production, and hurt the economy, have the worst impact on people in poverty—people who can least afford it. Every $100 will help us reach out to people through social media and other avenues. Help us take a stand for those with no voice, and tell the world “Energy Empowers the Poor!”

2. Make your donation public—on Giving Tuesday the world is paying attention to you. Take a picture with a sign that explains why you gave, and mention the Cornwall Alliance. Then post that picture to your social media accounts with the hashtags #GivingTuesday, and #UNSelfie, and tag the Cornwall Alliance in your post using @Cornwall Alliance for the Stewardship of Creation for Facebook, and @CornwallSteward for Twitter. (You can also begin announcing your intention to give any time before December 1^st, and encouraging your friends to join you! And we will share your posts!)

3. Check to see if your employer will participate in matching gifts. You can do this by checking through your company, or by clicking here.  FYI: Many companies have matching gift programs at all times of the year; if you donate regularly, this is a great way to double your gift!
