Properly aligned morals requires that weightier matters deserve more care and justify greater umbrage when violated. If one wanted a classic example of the upending of the moral hierarchy, one need look only at the juxtaposition of two stories, Planned Parenthood’s harvesting of baby parts and the killing of Cecil, a lion in Zimbabwe.
Note the irony in how the two events are discussed. First, the dentist claims that he thought the hunt was legal. So if we take his reported comments at face value, his trust in his guides was misplaced.
In regards to abortion, can anyone really claim that they didn’t know they were going to kill a baby?
Second, the conservation status of the species of lion is “vulnerable” the lowest risk area of the threatened species bracket.
What is the conservation status of an unborn child?
If the number of people who can’t tell the difference between a human and an animal continues to grow, then the future of humanity and the planet are in severe peril. Just consider communist countries, both modern and past. They rejected the inherent dignity of the individual in favor of the collective view of the elite. The effect communist ideology led not only to the degradation of their people, but also the surrounding environment.
Counter-intuitive isn’t it?
Only be properly recognizing the dignity of humanity as being made in the image of God can one hope to have a correct relationship with creation.
Regrettably, the out of proportion outrage against this big game hunt (just read the sign on the dentist’s door which says “Rot in HELL”) is just another example of how skewed and distorted our moral view has become. It doesn’t bode well for the future of humans or the animals they are called to manage.
