Late last year someone sent me a link to Dr. Katharine Hayhoe’s column “I’m a Climate Scientist Who Believes in God. Hear Me Out.” It was published in the New York Times October 31, 2019. Dr. Hayhoe’s Ph.D. is in atmospheric science. But she teaches in the political science department at Texas Tech University. She criticizes evangelicals who disagree with her about the causes, magnitude, consequences, and appropriate responses to climate change, aka global warming. Hayhoe … [Read more...]

A Potpourri of Recent Developments in the Climate Wars
Things pile up. The number of tabs open in my browser grows and grows. I mean to write separate articles on most of them. But time flies, I'm focused on urgent matters, and before you know it, things grow old. And my computer slows down! So rather than ignore these completely, here are quick comments on a variety of issues. Very big news: the federal Environmental Protection Agency announced its replacement for the power-grabbing, anti-federalist "Waters of the United States" rule … [Read more...]
Is U.S. Bound by UN Human Rights Committee Ruling on Climate Refugees?
The United Nations' Human Rights Committee (HRC) ruled January 21 that "countries cannot deport people who have sought asylum due to climate-related threats." The ruling came in a case brought in 2015 by a Ioane Teitota, who sought asylum in New Zealand as a "climate refugee." The HRC didn't rule that New Zealand's refusal to admit Teitota as a refugee violated his "right to life," but it did rule that "people seeking asylum are not required to prove that they would face immediate … [Read more...]
A Burning Golden Globe: Climate Hypocrisy Unraveled in Style
By now practically everybody’s heard how Ricky Gervais roasted celebrities at the 2020 Golden Globe awards. To say he called them out as hypocrites would be putting it mildly. Among his illustrious critical remarks were some about climate-change hypocrisy that celebrities display every year. What’s so special about that? Well, right-wing media and climate realists often point out the vast gap between what celebrities preach and what they do. But no one hosting an Oscar or Golden … [Read more...]
How Much Is A Climate Change ‘Solution’ Worth?
Numerous policies are being proposed to combat climate change. The cost of some of these policies are estimated to be in the trillions, tens of trillions and even near 100 trillion dollars. By claiming their policies resolve an “existential” threat, some advocates justify implementation at any cost. Governments would impose these costs on the public, reducing standards of living and quality of life. But what is the true nature of the presumed threat? Is it existential? If not … [Read more...]
Principled Inaction in the Face of Climate Change Extremism
For the next two weeks, delegates from nearly 200 countries and 29,000 visitors will be convening in Madrid for a summit on climate change. The 2019 United Nations Climate Change Conference, “COP25,” began with a cryptic address by U.N. Secretary-General António Guterres: “By the end of the coming decade we will be on one of two paths, one of which is sleepwalking past the point of no return … Do we want to be remembered as the generation that buried its head in the sand and fiddled as the … [Read more...]
When Wolves Infiltrate the Sheepfold: Discerning Climate Truth From Falsehood in Churches
In recent decades, environmental issues have emerged as a major source of concern for our society. Churches, except for a small percentage, have largely remained silent on how Christians should approach and even help overcome the environmental challenges. As a result, Christians have remained susceptible to being deceived by unbiblical principles that demand subscription to radical environmental viewpoints, often antithetical to the biblical doctrines on our relationship with the … [Read more...]
When Christians get Entangled in Climate Idolatry
The climate school strike movement grabbed the spotlight lately, with students across the world protesting against inaction towards the “climate crisis.” The movement’s leader, Greta Thunberg, has found supporters even in the global church leadership. However, in recent years, the church’s support for the climate movement seems to be morphing into a social justice issue that is void of sound Biblical doctrine. Over the past year, Greta’s climate strike movement has drawn huge support … [Read more...]
Recommended Sources on Global Warming/Climate Change
People often ask us for recommendations of things to read or view to help them grasp the arguments over global warming. For instance, “What would be the best book/article which critiques the global warming hysteria?” Or “What’s a good short, simple thing to read about climate change?” Or “What should I give to my scientist friend that will show that serious climate scientists question the idea of catastrophic, anthropogenic global warming?” Many resources come to mind. Below are some … [Read more...]
Climate Alarmists in Denial about “97% Consensus”
Dana Nuccitelli, than whom it would be difficult to find a more strident or persistent advocate of global warming alarmism, is upset (as usual). Why? He is shocked---shocked!---to find that "Millions of times later, 97 percent climate consensus still faces denial." Some people, despite having been castigated for it for over a decade, continue to "deny" that there is a "97% consensus" about manmade global warming. The spur for his latest tantrum, published in the Bulletin of the Atomic … [Read more...]
