Climate Change Did Not Cause Recent Record Heat Waves

by Anthony Watts

“Unprecedented Heat Wave in Pacific Northwest Driven by Climate Change,” the headline in E&E News, WOWT-TV, WorldNewsNetwork, and other media outlets recently, couldn’t possibly be less scientific. With absolutely no analysis, no historical context, and nothing but conjecture, author Anne C. Mulkern, in her article for Scientific American, eschewed science for advocacy in her coverage of the brief Pacific Northwest (PNW) heat wave at the end of June.If the … [Read more...]

Worried about Warming? What about Cooling?

by E. Calvin Beisner

While most of the global elite and politicians and media are worried that human action will usher in global warming, the more likely scenario for the next thirt years or more is global cooling. And while some warming would be mostly good for people and planet, cooling would not. That's the testimony of history. Humanity has always done better in warmer than in colder periods in history. Crops grow better, so food is more abundant. Cold snaps kill ten times as many people per day as heat waves. … [Read more...]

Great Victory for Freedom of Debate and Integrity of Science—Canadian Court Vindicates Climate Skeptic Timothy Ball

by E. Calvin Beisner

Dr. Timothy Ball, a climatologist and former professor at University of Winnipeg and outspoken critic of climate alarmism, won a huge victory in a Canadian court yesterday. As longtime friends of Tim's and admirers of his courageous work for the cause of truth and climate sanity, we at the Cornwall Alliance congratulate him. His son reported to Anthony Watts of WattsUpWithThat.com yesterday, "This morning the judge dismissed all charges in the lawsuit brought against Tim by BC Green Party … [Read more...]

Mourning the Loss of John Coleman—a Gentleman and a Scholar

by E. Calvin Beisner

One of the more prominent, and colorful, voices among "climate skeptics" was John Coleman, co-founder of The Weather Channel and a broadcast meteorologist with over 60 years of experience. He died January 20. I count it a privilege to have known John through our joint participation in several of the International Conferences on Climate Change. He was always friendly, jovial, and good humored, even when expressing his firm opinion that dangerous manmade global warming was "the greatest scam in … [Read more...]

Open Letter to Attorneys General about Climate Change

by E. Calvin Beisner

Dear Attorneys General, You’re not stupid. Stupid people don’t graduate from law school. Neither are you generally ignorant. You know lots of law. But the day of the “Renaissance man,” vastly learned across all fields of knowledge, is long gone. All intelligent and learned people are ignorant about some things. So, U.S. Attorney General Loretta Lynch and members of Attorneys General United for Clean Power, take no offense when I tell you that your intent to investigate and … [Read more...]

Ocean Acidification—Well, Maybe Not So Much

by E. Calvin Beisner

As global temperature remains well below alarmists' predictions, environmentalists continue to promote devastation from "ocean acidification" as their next rationale for clamping down on CO2 emissions. But as a new article in the ICES Journal of Marine Science makes clear, the actual scientific evidence for such devastation is slim, and the primary reason why so much gets published about it seems to be not scientific but political/sociological. As Ben Webster summarized in The Times (London): … [Read more...]

Are Global Warmists Fudging Temperature Data?

by E. Calvin Beisner

COP21 in Paris ended with a legally unenforceable but politically dangerous agreement among about 180 countries to reduce their CO2 emissions or slow their growth. Here in the United States Senator Bernie Sanders (D-VT) stands by his claim that manmade global warming is our greatest security threat, while President Obama treats it as a greater threat than radical Islamic terrorism, a nuclear Iran, a thermonuclear North Korea, and restive Russia and China. The mainstream news media continue to … [Read more...]

It’s Okay to Laugh at COP21!

by E. Calvin Beisner

Honest, you can't make these things up! Here's a screen capture from WattsUpwithThat.com on November 30, first day of COP21, the UN climate summit in Paris. Here's what the blurry (because screen captured) text says: Laughable: COP21 and Comedy Central share a logo style Anthony Watts, 20 hours ago, November 30, 2015 From the truth is stranger than fiction department. I was sent a photo showing hte UN Logo being installed at the COP21 conference in Paris. Source: Inquirer.net where they say … [Read more...]

Extra! Extra! Missing AGW Intensifies California Drought!

by E. Calvin Beisner

The Old Gray Lady's (aka New York Times) perennial climate alarmist reporter Justin Gillis eagerly reported a new paper, “Contribution of anthropogenic warming to California drought during 2012-2014,” published in Geophysical Research Letters, claiming that anthropogenic global warming (AGW) might have intensified the current California drought by 15 to 20 percent. Alas, nasty facts get in the way, like these: The drought started in 2012, but there's been no statistically significant global … [Read more...]
