Global Warming: Policy Hoax versus Dodgy Science

by Roy W. Spencer

By Dr. Roy Spencer In the early 1990s I was visiting the White House Science Advisor, Sir Prof. Dr. Robert Watson, who was pontificating on how we had successfully regulated Freon to solve the ozone depletion problem, and now the next goal was to regulate carbon dioxide, which at that time was believed to be the sole cause of global warming. I was a little amazed at this cart-before-the-horse approach. It really seemed to me that the policy goal was being set in stone, and now the … [Read more...]

Low Climate Sensitivity Makes Fighting Global Warming Unwise

by E. Calvin Beisner

To achieve the IPCC’s 3˚ “best estimate” of warming from doubled CO2 since the Industrial Revolution by the end of this century, GAT would have to rise another 2.593˚ in the remaining 63.5 years, a rate of 0.41˚ per decade, which is 3.7 times as fast as the observed rate so far. To achieve the 2˚ lower bound claimed for over 20 years, GAT would have to rise two-and-a-quarter times as fast as the observed rate. Even to reach the 1.5˚ the IPCC now claims is the lower bound, GAT would have to rise … [Read more...]

Book Review: The Great Global Warming Blunder: How Mother Nature Fooled the World’s Top Climate Scientists

by Thomas P. Sheahen

Roy Spencer is “taking his case to the public” with this book, which presents his very thorough explanation of why the climate models are wrong, and why the PDO (Pacific Decadal Oscillation) is the cause of far more of the temperature pattern seen in the 20th century than rising atmospheric carbon dioxide. The book is written for the layman, which just about triples its length. Of course, a scientist need not read all that. Spencer gives a few elementary explanations about water heating on a … [Read more...]

What’s Wrong with Latest National Climate Assessment? Dr. Roy Spencer Sounds Off

by Cornwall Alliance

The national media have been abuzz since the release of the Obama Administration’s highly politicized National Climate Assessment (NCA) Tuesday. A typical report, in USA Today, began this way:  Devastating droughts in the Southwest, ruinous floods in New York City, killer wildfires in Colorado, intense heat waves in the Plains: These are the some of the disasters that are being exacerbated by global warming, and problems will continue to worsen in the decades to come, according to a massive … [Read more...]

Cornwall Senior Fellow Blasts Global Warming Alarmism in Senate Hearing

by E. Calvin Beisner

Cornwall Alliance Senior Fellow Dr. Roy Spencer testified July 18 before the Senate Subcommittee on Environment and Public Works in a hearing on global warming. “The lack of statistically significant warming in the last 15 years,” Spencer told the committee via his written testimony, “… is sometimes glossed over with the claim that the global temperature record has a number of examples of no warming (or even cooling) over fifteen year periods. But this claim is disingenuous, because the … [Read more...]

Sea-Ice Extent: Record High, or Record Low? Depends Which Pole

by Douglas Gregory

Albert Einstein once said, “If we knew what we were doing, it wouldn’t be called research, would it?” It’s easy to jump to conclusions when you have little information. Good science doesn’t. Bad science does. Will you help the Cornwall Alliance bring good science to debates over global warming by your generous donation today? One reason our work is so needed is that bad science proliferates about environmental issues— particularly global warming. That’s what’s happened with news about Arctic … [Read more...]

Recommended Readings on the Global Warming Debate

by E. Calvin Beisner

From time to time the Cornwall Alliance receives requests for recommended readings on the debate over catastrophic, anthropogenic global warming (CAGW). Although it takes considerable time, we always send personal replies to such requests, believing that’s one of the ways we can serve people. If you’re a Cornwall Alliance supporter, this is part of what your donations make possible. If you’re not, we hope you’ll consider becoming one. But it also makes sense to make such recommendations … [Read more...]

Download the Annotated Testimony or the Short Version (pdf) Oral Testimony of Dr. E. Calvin Beisner to the Environment and Public Works Committee of the United States SenateWednesday, October 20, 2006  Mr. Chairman, members of the Committee, and distinguished guests, thank you for inviting me to speak to you today.
