Judith Curry confirms: climate models can’t justify policy—ANY policy

by E. Calvin Beisner

For years we at the Cornwall Alliance have been saying that the disagreement between model predictions (or projections or simulations, call them what you will) of global temperatures and real-world observations means the models are invalidated and therefore provide no rational basis for predictions of future temperature and therefore no rational basis for policies meant to respond to such predictions. Now one of the world's leading climatologists, recently retired Professor Judith Curry, Chair … [Read more...]

What’s the Real Motive Behind German Green Party’s Plan to Ban Petrol-driven Vehicles?

by E. Calvin Beisner

Der Spiegel reports (partial English translation here, courtesy of the Global Warming Policy Foundation) that the German Green Party has announced that it intends to get petrol-driven (gasoline and diesel) vehicles off German roads, aiming to have no more such vehicles registered from 2036 onward. "'We Greens want to get away from oil on the road over the next 20 years. We want to give cities, cyclists and pedestrians enough room that is free of toxic emissions,' it says in the draft of their … [Read more...]

“The Pause” Survives NOAA’s Assault

by E. Calvin Beisner

Climate alarmists the world over heaved a sigh of relief a little over a month ago when a team of NOAA scientists led by Tom Karl published a piece in Science purporting to disprove "the pause" in global warming. The sigh was short lived, though, since quite a few able critiques of Karl et al. 2015 appeared quickly, a number of them linked in my earlier blog on the subject here. Now the Global Warming Policy Foundation has published, together in a single post, two new critiques, by David … [Read more...]

Anglican Bishop and Labour Leader Respond to Pope Francis on Climate Change

by E. Calvin Beisner

Anglican Bishop Peter Forster and Labour Party Leader Bernard Donoughue team up for a clear, concise, respectful, yet telling critique of Pope Francis's encyclical LAUDATO SI', published by the Global Warming Policy Foundation. They argue, as has the Cornwall Alliance, that: 1. The policies Pope Francis supports to reduce global warming will harm the world's poor. 2. Using fossil fuels has been and should continue to be a huge benefit to humanity, lifting billions of out poverty, but also to … [Read more...]

NOAA Study Takes World by Storm: No Global Warming Pause!

by E. Calvin Beisner

That's how most of the media are treating a new study, anyway. Even the Wall Street Journal ran a news piece titled "Study Finds No Pause in Global Warming." The source? "Possible artifacts of data bias in the recent global surface warming hiatus," published this week in Science, by long-time global warming alarmist Tom Karl et al. Abstract: Much study has been devoted to the possible causes of an apparent decrease in the upward trend of global surface temperatures since 1998, a phenomenon … [Read more...]

Sea-Ice Extent: Record High, or Record Low? Depends Which Pole

by Douglas Gregory

Albert Einstein once said, “If we knew what we were doing, it wouldn’t be called research, would it?” It’s easy to jump to conclusions when you have little information. Good science doesn’t. Bad science does. Will you help the Cornwall Alliance bring good science to debates over global warming by your generous donation today? One reason our work is so needed is that bad science proliferates about environmental issues— particularly global warming. That’s what’s happened with news about Arctic … [Read more...]
