John Kerry, Refrigerants, Global Warming, and Isis—What Did He Say, and Is It True?

by E. Calvin Beisner

Various news sources had a heyday when Secretary of State John Kerry made comments July 22 about HFCs (hydrofluorocarbons), the chemicals used in many air conditioners and refrigerators around the world, calling them a major risk because they promote global warming. Conservative media tended to trumpet the news as one more instance of a patently absurd statement by the Secretary of State. Fox News headlined its story, "Kerry: Air conditioners as big a threat as ISIS." Washington Examiner's … [Read more...]

Why ISIS Should Support COP21 in Paris…

by Roy W. Spencer

After the horrific terror attacks in Paris Friday night, there is considerable speculation over the possible cancellation of the COP21 climate talks in Paris in a couple of weeks. I will remind you that President Obama has stated that the threat of climate change is greater than the threat of terrorism. I will also remind you that many believe that ISIS would not have arisen if not for climate change, specifically, drought in Syria caused by your SUV. It is only logical that ISIS should be … [Read more...]

Did Manmade Climate Change Cause Syria’s Civil War and the Rise of ISIS?

by E. Calvin Beisner

This article was originally published in The Christian Post. A new paper, Climate change in the Fertile Crescent and implications of the recent Syrian drought, PNAS, March 2, 2015, summarized its findings by saying, "the 2007-2010 drought contributed to the conflict in Syria. It was the worst drought in the instrumental record, causing widespread crop failure and a mass migration of farming families to urban centers." It went on to say, "Century-long observed trends in precipitation, … [Read more...]

We Pray for Energy Sources in Ethiopia

by Tessema Bekele

Dear Lord my community is suffering for energy sources in Ethiopia. We were expecting solution for last two years, both at household level and the community levels. But still the problem is unchanged. We need your grace and wisdom up on the electric and power agency to think differently to serve our people. We have also  unfinished infrastructures, such as the Grand Ren.hydro power Dam construction and the like, this construction is underway, but delayed, Lord, we ask you the financial blessings … [Read more...]

NY Climate Conference? Ain’t Nobody Got Time for That!

by Megan (Toombs) Kinard

Read the news. The. World. Is. A. Disaster. But, according to President Obama, “the world’s always been messy … we’re just noticing now in part because of social media.” #what? I guess, since Facebook and Twitter weren’t around, the folks who lived through World War I, World War II, and the Cold War never noticed those messy events. Be that as it may, even with all of the “messes” going on in the world, many leaders are taking a day to catch up in New York City at the UN Climate Summit, … [Read more...]
