Reasons to Sign An Open Letter on Climate Change to the American People and their Leaders: An Appeal to Christian Academics

by Cornwall Alliance

Four-part Series: Part 1; Part 2; Part 3; Part 4 Burke, VA, November 18, 2015 Greetings in the name of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ—Friend of sinners, Friend of the poor. We’re writing to ask you to join us in doing something that will take courage, so we want you to be well informed, first about who we are, and second about the subject on which we’re asking you to take a stand. Along with nearly 400 others—including many climate scientists, physicists, mathematicians, economists … [Read more...]

Curry Deals Another Blow to Climate Consensus

by E. Calvin Beisner

Georgia Tech climatologist Judith Curry dealt a serious blow to the appeal to consensus on climate change in her paper "Climate Change: No Consensus on Consensus," three years ago. She pointed out (among lots of other valuable things) that, whatever value consensus might have in science (as opposed to politics), consensus is significant only if it arises spontaneously, but the alleged consensus on climate change had been assiduously manufactured by the IPCC. She's followed the subject a good … [Read more...]

It’s Official: July 2015 Is, and Isn’t, the Hottest Month on Record!

by E. Calvin Beisner

NOAA breathlessly reports, "July 2015 was warmest month ever recorded for the globe." CNN, USA Toady---oops, that's USA Today---, BBC, and lots of other mainstream media lapdogs all obediently reported it. But laymen need to pause for a deep breath before panicking. First, "ever recorded" means back to 1880 (conveniently leaving out the Holocene Climate Optimum, Minoan Warm Period, Roman Warm Period, and Medieval Warm Period, all of which exceeded modern temperatures), and "recorded" means by … [Read more...]

Validation of IPCC’s Global Warming Forecasts would Require More than Tripling Warming Rate

by E. Calvin Beisner

At +0.11C per decade rate, Global Average Temperature would rise 1.1C in a century, not the ~3C generally predicted by IPCC without CO2 emission reduction. Actual increase in the 36.5 years since 1978 is 0.407C. To wind up with 3C increase in the century from 1978 through 2077, we'd need to add another 2.593C in the remaining 63.5 years, i.e., 0.41C per decade, 3.7 times the rate so far. Anybody got a good idea what's going to drive that more-than-tripling of the rate of increase? Or might it … [Read more...]

New Observational Evidence Supports Old “Infrared Iris” Theory

by E. Calvin Beisner

About seven years ago I read a fascinating paper by Roy Spencer et al. that argued that clouds respond to Earth's surface temperatures in ways that moderate them--cooling the surface in response to warming, warming it in response to cooling. It led me to an earlier paper by Richard Lindzen that argued that, at least in a major region above the Pacific, clouds respond to surface temperature changes in a way analogous to how the human eye's iris responds to light. In response to dimmer light, the … [Read more...]

Can Faith and Science Cooperate? A Meteorologist Appeals to Scripture About Global Warming

by E. Calvin Beisner

Recently Certified Consulting Meteorologist Anthony J. Sadar, a Contributing Writer for the Cornwall Alliance, committed an unpardonable sin for scientists: he appealed to the Bible as support for his understanding about manmade global warming. Yes, he gave some evidence from temperature measurements, too, but his primary argument was this: … rather than having faith that God will sustain His environment so that the liberating word of Christ can go forth, [gullible] Christians have put their … [Read more...]
