From recent media reports (e.g. the WaPo’s Capital Weather Gang) you would think that the new RSS satellite dataset for the lower troposphere (LT) has resolved the discrepancy between climate models and observations. But the new LT dataset (Version 4, compared to Version 3.3) didn’t really change in the tropics. This can be seen in the following plot of a variety of observational datasets and the average of 102 CMIP5 climate model simulations. Comparison of 102 CMIP5 climate model runs … [Read more...]
Christy Defends Satellite Temperature Data

Christy (Ph.D., Meteorology), Distinguished Professor of Atmospheric Science, Alabama State Climatologist, Director of the Earth System Science Center at The University of Alabama in Huntsville, former Lead Author, Contributing Author, and Reviewer of United Nations Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change assessments, recipient of NASA’s Medal for Exceptional Scientific Achievement, and a Fellow of the American Meteorological Society (all that just to shame the climate alarmists … [Read more...]
No, 2015 Was NOT the Warmest Year on Record
Global warming alarmists the world over have been hailing 2015 as the warmest year on record. Reality check: The satellite data are in, and at 0.27 deg C above the 1981-2010 average) it's only the third warmest, behind 1998 (#1, 0.48 deg C above the 1981-2010 average) and 2010 (#2, 0.34 deg C above 1981-2010 average). Kudos to Cornwall Alliance Senior Fellow Dr. Roy Spencer, who collects the satellite data with U. of Alabama colleague Dr. John Christy, for providing this monthly update. As our … [Read more...]
