Merciful Lord God,
We thank you for calling us to prayer in the Spirit of Adoption, by whom we cry to you, “Abba! Father!” We thank you for your Word, by which we know “that the creation itself will be set free from its bondage to corruption and obtain the freedom of the glory of the children of God.” We thank you that through Jesus Christ all things are made new, and we yearn for the fullness of the promise.
We confess that we have too often used your creation thoughtlessly. We have sinned in our disregard for that which you have given us charge over, to tend. Though you have made your world radiant with beauty that proclaims your glory to us, we have oft been indifferent. We have, in our hardness of heart, forgotten the poorest among us, and done too little to alleviate their lack of pure water, sufficient food, and energy—along with the appalling lack of beauty the poorest must endure. Forgive us, and conform us more exactly to the image of your Son.
You assure us in your Word that if we confess our sins you will be faithful to forgive us and purify us from all unrighteousness. So we extol you for your mercy, O God!
You brought us by your mighty hand out of bondage and gave us an inheritance, just so, move mightily through the preaching of your word among the poor. In your mercy, grant relief from injustice in all lands, so that all might have the things they need for the body. Allow the policies of the nations to ensure abundant energy needed for industry and prosperity.
We pray also that the mighty and wealthy might repent and return to you. Grant generosity from those who have been given much, that Lazarus at their gate might be filled and cared for. Let us outdo one another in living lives poured out to do your will.
Your Apostle proclaimed that rulers are your servants for good. May all who advise those in authority understand what is needed for the care of the world and all who live in it. May their insights be effective for the destruction of poverty and the promotion of justice, Let the scientists who study your creation think your thoughts after you. Bless your policy makers to truly picture your righteousness so that many will see and give glory to you.
For all those working in your name to care for the creation and for people, we pray for your continued favor. Especially, we pray for the Cornwall Alliance, that they would never stray from your word, and that they would have what they need to continue so that your name might be known, and your great salvation proclaimed to the whole world.
It is in the high and peerless name of Jesus that we pray, amen.
