We’re told global warming gives us only 5, 10, 12 more years (depending on the doomsayer) before the planet is irretrievably doomed. “Therefore, act now!” alarmists demand. Of course, they’ve been saying the same thing for 10, 20, 25 years. 

It’s become impossible to spoof these people… 

Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez’s socialist Green Deal is so laughably ridiculous even the leftist leadership of her own Democratic Party is running from it. Amid the backlash, she’s apparently removed it from her own web page. For now. 

Not long ago advancing the idea that every building in the nation must be retrofitted to meet entirely arbitrary standards to protect against the entirely un-dangerous, pretend threat of global warming would have been a non-starter, even among the looniest of the loony left. Too say nothing of abolishing all airline flights, getting rid of cows that fart and eliminating every vehicle with internal combustion engines in 10 years, as AOC proposes. 

Previously these would have been the things of satire, or of darkest fiction. But so too would have been the notion a man can be a woman simply by declaring it to be so, or that a baby can legally be murdered after birth if her mother didn’t want to be bothered to raise the child. We’ve come a long way, baby. 

Let’s be clear. The only way such schemes can be implemented is by force. At the point of a gun, or at least by the threat of punishment, physical, fiscal or otherwise.  

The socialistic redistribution of wealth is what really is behind the global warming scare. The trouble is, people refuse to give their money to other people simply because the others’ want it. That’s why every socialist state enforces its diktats at gunpoint. 

Being exposed as absurd, as AOC has been, won’t stop socialist, redistributionist authoritarians. They intend for you to submit to government control, and to pay for the indignity. 

That’s despotism. But it’s delivered with the pretense that it’s for your own good, even the greater good. And always with urgency, akin to late-night TV commercials’ hard sell: “Act now!” The implication being that the government will take care of everything. 

“…if you depend on the government, you are disabled from resisting it,” said Ralph Waldo Emerson long before the first Marxist government came to power.  

Prescient, no?  

What happened when millions of Russians resisted their new Marxist government? Stalin made sure they died, by the tens of millions simply for not complying. How about North Koreans? Ditto. And what of the romantic image of Fidel Castro’s buddy Che Guevara? He was Communist Cuba’s chief executioner, marching dissidents into the jungle to execute them out of sight of the masses, who had not yet come face-to-face with the new communist tyranny.  

In every case, the socialism imposed was supposedly for the greater good, but resulted in enslaving entire populations in totalitarian police states. 

When people voluntarily give to aid others they deem to be in need, it’s charity. When government forcibly takes people’s money to give to others the government arbitrarily deems to be deserving, it’s legalized theft. 

As long as despots have existed, they’ve relied on the second option. Only in recent decades have they tried concealing the evil by telling victims of the theft it’s for the greater good. They’ve added lying to their thievery. 

That brings us to global warming. 

For several decades, redistributionists have advanced what to them must seem to be the perfect ploy: fighting global warming. It’s the perfect scam to justify perpetual legalized theft and redistribution of wealth to favored cronies. 

By purposely ignoring real causes of temperature fluctuation – the sun and clouds – this scheme is pseudo-scientific. Their touted computer models suffer from garbage-in, garbage-out. But they are effective in persuading the political class to play along.  

If temperatures increase, alarmists insist you must pay more, sacrifice more and become more compliant. If temperatures don’t increase (which they essentially haven’t for nearly 20 years), the government insists the world remains dangerously hot (even though over the ages it’s been considerably hotter), and therefore you must pay up, sacrifice and comply even more to reduce temperatures further. If temperatures decline, the government threatens that we will return to those supposedly dangerous high temperatures if you don’t (drum roll here) pay up, sacrifice and comply even more than you already have. 

Notice the pattern? Whatever the temperature, whatever the trend, the result is always the same: you must pay up, sacrifice and comply. See where it’s going? The “problem” never will be solved, so you must sign up for the endless global warming war. There’s no light at the end of this tunnel. 

Similarly, whatever the climate’s condition, alarmists conclude it is caused by global warming. If it’s hot, it’s global warming. If it’s frigidly cold, as recently, the culprit also is global warming. In that way the “remedy” always is needed, and the diagnosis is immune to disproof. 

As with all socialist redistribution schemes, crony insiders are enriched (Al Gore was probably the first global warming billionaire), while those paying the bills are impoverished. There’s an old adage in journalism: “follow the money.” Remember Solyndra, the half-billion dollar tax-subsidized solar power boondoggle that went bankrupt after enjoying your subsidy?  

Global warming alarmists demand everyone must pay up, sacrifice and comply because the alleged threat is worldwide. That’s another part of the scam’s beauty. No one can escape footing the bill – unless granted specific wavers from those who run the system, the regulatory masters, who nearly put the coal industry out of business under the last global warming-inclined presidential administration. As in the Soviet Union, it’s always the insiders’ cronies who are exempted from compliance. 

Beware, and be forearmed when OAC’s cockamamie scheme resurfaces, as it surely will.

By denying Third World populations the same affordable, easily accessible electrical energy made from fossil fuels that you enjoy, it forces them to burn dung and wood in open fires and inside their dwellings for heating and cooking, ironically generating their own CO2 emissions while damaging the health of their families. It kills more than AIDS, malaria and tuberculosis combined. 

Meanwhile Al Gore and his ilk jet around the world spewing more carbon dioxide on their trips than entire villages generate so Gore and company can plot their next “improvement” for mankind, and profit center for the favored.
