You’ve seen the claims all over the place. “Polar bears are going extinct because manmade global warming robs them of the sea-ice habitat they depend on to hunt for food!” Or some such verbiage.
Well, it’s about time the crybabies on the radical Green Left abandoned that charge.
As Dr. Jay Lehr points out in “Polar bears: The end of a climate delusion icon,” there never was any empirical basis for the claim. It rested on computer models alone—models that assumed counterfactual circumstances to generate bogus results.
The empirical evidence—the hallmark of science—shows exactly the opposite. Rather than marching toward extinction, polar bears are multiplying.
Lehr presents the numbers from polar bear biologist Susan Crockford in a simple graph:
In short, the estimated number of polar bears has multiplied by anywhere from nearly 2 to nearly 6 times.
