The day will come, if the political left is not stopped, when a preponderance of electric vehicles placed in operation will demand enough k-watt hours of power to bring down the grid during periods of peak demand. It already happens with some degree of frequency in California, and in Texas less frequently during its winter cold spells. The rest will not be far behind.

The focus needs to be drawn away from the fact that an electric vehicle has no attached tailpipe to emit emissions. Even though the electricity needed to recharge its battery must come from some remote power source to drive the generators that feed the grid. Coal-fired plants, being among the most reliable power sources, are rapidly being phased out of service in the US (although the Chinese and Indians continue to build more of them). Nuclear power lost favor after Three-Mile Island and Chernobyl disasters, leaving by default the so-called renewable power sources—wind and solar—moving toward the policy forefront. But what the proponents of renewable electricity won’t discuss is the fact that neither of the leading two candidates are inherently reliable.  The wind often does not blow or it blows too hard.  The Sun doesn’t shine at night, and far less during the winter or during cloudy conditions.  The much-needed electrical storage technology and capacity does not exist and likely will not for the foreseeable future.

All these hard-nosed facts seem to fall on deaf ears within the advocacy community and their allies in the bureaucracy and with many improperly informed elected officials. But there is nothing more certain than the consternation and misery that will accompany the Green New World proposed by Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and her minions if and when they succeed in tearing down the economy as it currently exists and replacing it with their own peculiar vision. Society’s fortunate 1% may be able to continue with their lives, but the rest of us will feel the pain like we have never imagined.

The initial EV purchase price of $65,000 and up for a well-constructed Tesla is far beyond the financial capabilities of the average American family.
