During the Easter weekend, London Mayor Sadiq Khan made a surprise plea to climate protestors. He asked them to end their protests, which he said caused disorder problem in the world’s iconic city.
It is not common for a pro-alarmist leader to call for an end to a climate protest. Are more diplomats and leaders waking up to the insanity of climate protests across the globe? Will we see more politicians and celebrities expose the rampant hypocrisy in the climate alarmist movement?
Climate protestors in London took to the streets during the Easter weekend. They created havoc for Londoners. Their protests disrupted bus services and caused a nightmare for civil authorities.
The big question during the protests was whether Khan would address the plight of his city or remain silent.
He surprised many by calling out the protestors. He implored them to abandon their out-of-control protests and end their toll on Londoners.
Khan tweeted, “My message to all the climate change protestors today is clear: let London return to business as usual. … It simply isn’t right to put Londoners’ safety at risk like this.”
In speaking out against the protestors, Khan gave a wakeup call to the alarmists. His message is clear: they will not have a free-hand, their riotous actions will not be tolerated, and they will not be allowed to cause significant disruption to the daily life.
The London episode will likely play out in other cities as more civic leaders voice concern about the blatant hypocrisy in the approach of climate protestors.
While, on one hand, the protestors claim to fight for the planet and the future of our children, on the other hand they engage in disruptive protests causing major problems in cities.
They are concerned about a potential imaginary future that is unprovable, yet endanger lives in the present.
The heights of this hypocrisy were observed during the school children’s climate strike in Europe. Teachers guided, sanctioned, and encouraged children to join what appeared to be a well-coordinated, politically motivated climate protest.
Some of the teachers displayed strong political inclinations. One group of climate protestors near the British Parliament publicly defamed Prime Minister Theresa May, shouting obscene slogans against her. One wonders whether theirs was a climate protest or a partisan political protest.
Moreover, the school strike took away precious class time from students who were made to protest a physical phenomenon far too complex for them to understand.
School students weren’t the only victims. The protestors held up traffic for hours, causing inconvenience to thousands of hard-working commuters.
If climate protestors really mean to help our planet and human society, they should not harm the public. The end doesn’t justify the means.
I suspect that if the protests continue, and especially if they grow, more leaders like Sadiq Khan, intent on protecting the safety and lives of their city people, will be left with no option but to withdraw their support for the climate cause.
