In 2013 the Cornwall Alliance, at the request of the International Church Council Project, developed a summary, in 30 pairs of affirmations and denials, of how Biblical worldview, theology, and ethics provide a foundation for environmental stewardship. The result was The Biblical Perspective of Environmental Stewardship: Subduing and Ruling the Earth to the Glory of God and the Benefit of Our Neighbors. What follows are seventeen prayers based on that statement. We hope you’ll find them useful … [Read more...]
Are Schools and Media to Blame for Children’s Climate-change Neuroses?
The Independent reported March 3 that “a growing number of children are being affected by eco-anxiety—concern about ecological disasters.”Question: Do you suppose there is any connection between what school children are being taught in the classroom and may see on broadcast “news” all over the world—if they take time to pay attention—and their states of mind?Neither a typical school teacher, nor the average news reporter, is sufficiently grounded in the arcane discipline of climate science … [Read more...]
Sea Level Up at Almost All US Coasts—So What?
"The sea level rose at nearly all U.S. coastline measurement stations in 2019, leaving scientists to warn that the likelihood that heavy flooding will strike is becoming more likely."So wrote Sandy Fitzgerald in Newsmax February 3. But never fear. The facts and some solid reasoning will show that that outcome is unlikely, even as a worst case. This narrative has long served as an ace in the hole for the climate alarmists. What Ms. Fitzgerald failed to tell her readers is that long-term tide … [Read more...]
T-Shirt Time in Antarctica?
So suggested a headline in Bloomberg News early last month. What to make of this? For one thing Bloomberg News can no longer be regarded as a sterling source for news after its owner has thrust himself into the 2020 Presidential race.Still the information in the piece needs some careful examination.Right out of the gate please notice that the site where the temperature record was broken is not the same as that where the photograph was taken dating to 2008.In material fact, the distance between … [Read more...]
Will Climate Change Destroy Half the World’s Beaches?
According to a claim making the rounds through the media, global “temperature is expected to rise by 2.8° C at the end of this century due to climate change. This … will cause sea levels to rise, causing half of the world’s beaches to disappear.” My current search turned up at least a dozen more references that reconfirm the rampant pack-journalism mentality in today’s media. A quick read of the article below suggests several misinterpretations indulged in by the reporter.1) The only reason for … [Read more...]
Taken By Storm: Tried and True!
In a wonderful essay called “On the Reading of Old Books,” C.S. Lewis argued that because every age has its own blind spots, we need the perspectives of other ages to help us see our own. So he recommended reading old books.“To be sure,” he said, “the books of the future would be just as good a corrective as the books of the past, but unfortunately, we cannot get at them.” So, he advised, “It is a good rule, after reading a new book, never to allow yourself another new one till you have read an … [Read more...]
Are Little Quakes in Western Tennessee Precursors of “The Big One”?
The Raleigh, NC, News and Observer was on the case of “The Big One,” with a story February 4 about a cluster of tiny quakes in far western Tennessee. From the text of Ms. Simore Jasper's story I cannot find a reference to any quake larger than a magnitude 3. It remains a matter of conjecture whether the residents of Dyersburg, TN, actually felt any effects of a 2.7 or were inspired by the power of suggestion. The mentioned 1.3 quake is so weak that it could not “hit” anything at the … [Read more...]
We must fight climate extremists before they upend society
Start learning the deep details of the science and economics instead of letting extremists dictate what you’re allowed to think or say.Last year was the year the climate issue took a sharp turn towards extremism. Let’s hope 2020 is the year sanity makes a comeback. There have long been three groups occupying the climate issue. To avoid pejoratives, I will call them A, B and C.The A group are the doubters. They don’t believe greenhouse gases (GHGs) do much harm and they don’t support expensive … [Read more...]
The Dirty Big Secret: ‘Clean, Renewable Energy’ Is Neither
... clean nor renewable, that is.That fact came through loud and clear in an article last August by energy expert Mark Mills and co-author Alexander Ackley in The International Chronicles titled "The Destructive Myth of Green Energy: If You Want 'Renewable Energy' Get Ready to Destroy the Environment."Here are a few facts that Mills and Ackley explain and prove in detail:While wind and sunlight renew themselves, we can only derive usable energy from them by using materials that don't. That means … [Read more...]
Californians Turn a Cold Shoulder on Bill Requiring Climate-Change Education
A bill introduced in the California Assembly January 13 would require students to study the causes and effects of climate change in grades 1-6. It would also make the subject a requirement for high-school graduation. When I read the news, I first thought, “What’s surprising? Climate alarmists have long since taken over California.”But it looks like ordinary Californians aren’t going to be so easily led. Comments on the news story at CBS Sacramento were overwhelmingly … [Read more...]
