In a lengthy feature in its February 5, 2023, Sunday edition, the New York Times told the heart-breaking story of a young couple who lost their home to Hurricane Harvey. Written by Jake Bittle, described as "a reporter covering climate, housing and energy," the article was adapted from his forthcoming book The Great Displacement: Climate Change and the Next American Migration. The article claims that Harvey and other "climate disasters" destroyed hundreds of thousands of homes across the … [Read more...]
Green Billionaires Bankroll War on Gas Stoves
Image: Creative Commons under Unsplash What is the “Climate Imperative Foundation”? Have you ever heard of it? As Robert Bryce writes on Substack, “The Climate Imperative Foundation is the newest and richest anti-hydrocarbon, anti-natural gas group you’ve never heard of.” I recently discussed the issue related to gas stoves. In my investigation, I found the attack on using natural gas for cooking comes largely from the Climate Imperative Foundation. In its first year of existence, Climate … [Read more...]
Why the Sudden Attack on Gas Stoves?
No doubt you have heard the discussion that gas stoves are evil … because they lead to childhood asthma. I am not talking about “gasoline” stoves—and I do not recommend you cook with gasoline—but gas stoves that run on natural gas. You might have one of these “anti-children” appliances in your kitchen. I recently moved from a home that had a gas stove to one where I now cook with electricity … not because I have children who are likely to develop asthma but because … well, the new house does not … [Read more...]
The Dangers of the “One Health Joint Plan of Action”
The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has a page on its website titled “One Health Basics.” There it defines “One Health” as “a collaborative, multisectoral, and transdisciplinary approach—working at the local, regional, national, and global levels—with the goal of achieving optimal health outcomes recognizing”—and here’s the crux—“the interconnection between people, animals, plants, and their shared environment.” On that page the CDC writes about the risk of disease … [Read more...]
Newly Released Survey Revealing Evangelicals Most Skeptical About “Climate Change” Is Evidence of Cornwall Alliance’s Influence
On November 17, the Pew Research Center released the results of a new survey about Americans’ views on the environment, particularly climate change. Pew’s report on the survey results says they showed that “highly religious Americans overwhelmingly say God gave humans a duty to protect and care for the Earth, but far fewer see climate change as a serious problem.” Specifically: 92% (including 86% of evangelicals) say God gave us that duty, but only 42 percent consider climate change an … [Read more...]
Welcome to Cold War II
Trying to Save the Planetfrom the People Who Are Trying to Save the Planet Two scenes from my toddlerhood in Calcutta, India, have flashed in my mind thousands of times over the last 60-plus years. The first was of a beautiful tree with a red-flowered vine hanging from its branches. The second was of the emaciated bodies of people who had died overnight of starvation and disease. I saw the tree and its vine as my aia, or nurse, led me by the hand through the courtyard of the building … [Read more...]
Was Ian Really the “Deadliest” Florida Hurricane Since 1935 or 1928?
We should mourn every death from any natural disaster. We should feel compassion not only for those who have died but also for their family and friends, who mourn their loss. Assuming that the average American has about 15 living close relatives and about 200 friends, the number of people who have lost family or friends due to Hurricane Ian probably approaches 25,000. Each now mourns, closer family and friends more deeply, more distant less deeply. As Christians, we should mourn with those who … [Read more...]
If You Give a Mouse a Cookie
Image: Creative Commons under Unsplash In an article on the Reformation21 website titled, “When ‘If You Give a Mouse a Cookie’ Is All the Logic Left,” Justin Poythress, Pastor of All Saints Presbyterian Church in Boise, ID, offers some wise caution about the typical way in which people try to persuade each other. His words are particularly relevant to much of what goes by the name of persuasion about environmental issues, including among Christians. Here I will quote him at length and then … [Read more...]
You Can Act to Prevent Implementation of California’s All-EV Plan
Last month, California Governor Gavin Newsom announced a rule by the California Air Resources Board to require 100 percent of new car sales in California to be zero-emission vehicles (ZEVs) by 2035: “We can solve this climate crisis if we focus on the big, bold steps necessary to cut pollution. California now has a groundbreaking, world-leading plan to achieve 100 percent zero-emission vehicle sales by 2035," the Governor said. He added: “This plan’s yearly targets – 35 percent ZEV sales … [Read more...]
When Will EVs Crash the Grid?
The day will come, if the political left is not stopped, when a preponderance of electric vehicles placed in operation will demand enough k-watt hours of power to bring down the grid during periods of peak demand. It already happens with some degree of frequency in California, and in Texas less frequently during its winter cold spells. The rest will not be far behind. The focus needs to be drawn away from the fact that an electric vehicle has no attached tailpipe to emit emissions. Even … [Read more...]
