Join us for the 2nd Annual Cornwall Day of Prayer for the Poor and the Environment

by Megan (Toombs) Kinard

March 25 is the birthday of Nobel Peace Prize winner Dr. Norman Borlaug, “Father of the Green Revolution” and “The Man Who Fed the World” by his work increasing crop yields around the world. Borlaug’s amazing achievements not only fed, and continue to feed, billions of people, but also improve all of the world’s environment. Why? Because they reduce the need to convert natural lands to farmlands by enabling farmers to grow more food on every acre. That makes him a hero not only of the poor … [Read more...]

Help Us Speak the Truth in Love We Pray

by E. Calvin Beisner

Philippians 2:1–4: So if there is any encouragement in Christ, any comfort from love, any participation in the Spirit, any affection and sympathy, complete my joy by being of the same mind, having the same love, being in full accord and of one mind. Do nothing from rivalry or conceit, but in humility count others more significant than yourselves. Let each of you look not only to his own interests, but also to the interests of others. Heavenly Father, throughout the ages Your people, the … [Read more...]

We Pray for Freedom of Speech and Debate

by E. Calvin Beisner

Proverbs 18:17: The one who states his case first seems right, until the other comes and examines him. John 8:32: … you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free. Heavenly Father, some American officials are calling for civil and possible criminal investigations of those who, like us at the Cornwall Alliance, contest the idea that the use of fossil fuels is causing potentially catastrophic global warming. We pray in the midst of this situation that truth will prevail. … [Read more...]

We Pray for Protection and Wisdom

by Brad Fregger

Lord, I know many are praying for a stop to global warming with the strong belief that we are damaging the environment by our use of fossil fuels. But I believe those fuels have been provided to us as a means to minimize human suffering and to act as a bridge to the time when technology will be able to provide free energy to all peoples and every society on earth. My prayers are for protection from the potential of a cooling earth. I pray for wisdom to be provided to our leaders that they … [Read more...]

The Theologization of Global Warming Among American Evangelicals: Who Says Religion and Science Can’t Mix?

by E. Calvin Beisner

[Note: This essay was written in the summer of 2010 at the request of Dr. Patrick Michaels, intended for a book he was editing. His publisher declined to include it in the book because of its religious content. It was never published elsewhere until now. We hope it remains a helpful survey of the history of the debate over global warming among evangelicals up to that time.—ECB, March 11, 2016] Introduction In the last half decade there has been a blossoming of public concern about global … [Read more...]

The Lord’s Prayer

by Cornwall Alliance

Matthew 6: 5-14 ESV 5 “And when you pray, you must not be like the hypocrites. For they love to stand and pray in the synagogues and at the street corners, that they may be seen by others. Truly, I say to you, they have received their reward. 6 But when you pray, go into your room and shut the door and pray to your Father who is in secret. And your Father who sees in secret will reward you. 7 “And when you pray, do not heap up empty phrases as the Gentiles do, for they think that they will … [Read more...]

We Pray for our Nation

by Tracy C. Miller

O Ruler of Nations, We pray for our nation, our government officials and the political process by which we elect our representatives and leaders at the local, state and national level.  We plead with you that you might not give us the government we deserve but rather would give us elected officials who would engage with the vital issues that will affect our future prosperity and the advancement of your kingdom. We pray that those running for office would participate in open and civil … [Read more...]

Come Lord Jesus We Pray

by John Grotenhuis

Our Father in Heaven, You are our Creator and Redeemer. We come to you with thanksgiving for our salvation and for the glories of your creation displayed all around us. We come confessing our sinfulness, and pray your forgiveness through the work of Christ. We thank you our Father today for that wonderful covenant made with Noah. Through it you have blessed your creation and it has been of much comfort to us for it is a reminder of our Father in Heaven who cares for his people. And so … [Read more...]

How Can You Help Us Pray for the Environment and the Poor March 1–25?

by E. Calvin Beisner

As you may remember, last year the Cornwall Alliance hosted its first Day of Prayer for the Environment and the Poor. Many friends wrote prayers, and those were great guides for others to pray on that day! Many also committed to pray at specific times on March 25. We’re hosting our second annual Day of Prayer, again on March 25—the birthday of Nobel Peace Prize winner Norman Borlaug (about whom more below). We’d love for you to participate by writing prayers and reflections on issues related … [Read more...]
