Two Cornwall Alliance scholars spoke to an avid audience of over 650 last week at the 9th International Conference on Climate Change (of which the Cornwall Alliance was a cosponsor), and both also received awards.
Senior Fellow Dr. Roy Spencer, Principal Research Scientist in Climatology for the University of Alabama in Huntsville and U.S. Science Team Leader for the Advanced Microwave Scanning Radiometer on NASA’s Aqua Satellite, spoke in a breakout session on “Climate Change and the Hydrosphere” (beginning at 00:31:31) demonstrating that ocean current cycles are major players in global climate change, and later gave a keynote address on “What Do We Really Know about Global Warming?” outlining his reasons for rejecting dangerous manmade global warming. He concluded, “The reason why more scientists don’t advocate putting more carbon dioxide into the atmosphere [which would enhance food production and help the poor] is because the driving force behind the global warming debate isn’t science.”
Cornwall Alliance Founder and National Spokesman Dr. E. Calvin Beisner, shown here with Joe Bast, President of the Heartland Institute, which hosted the conference, presented Dr. Spencer the award for “Outstanding Evangelical Climate Scientist.” Here you can watch the award presentation (beginning at 1:08:57). Congratulations Dr. Spencer! Keep up the good work!
Dr. Beisner spoke for a breakout session on “Global Warming as a Social Movement”(beginning at 11:57), addressing the ethics of climate policy. He also received the award for “Outstanding Spokesman on Faith, Science, and Stewardship” (beginning at 01:25:35), presented by the Heritage Foundation.
The program, attended by 55 media representatives in addition to the 655 registered guests, included 64 speakers from 12 countries, informative plenary and breakout sessions, 10 special awards, and an exhibit hall filled with people during session breaks. Thousands around the world watched, and all the lectures are online.
Following the International Conference on Climate Change, Cornwall’s Dr. Beisner, his wife Debby, and Communications & Outreach Coordinator Megan Toombs, ran an exhibit booth at FreedomFest, a gathering of over 1,000 freedom lovers. There we introduced the Cornwall Alliance to hundreds of people who had not heard of us before or hadn’t known about the issues facing our country, and the world, because of bad stewardship and harmful policy.
A highlight of both meetings was that Dr. Beisner was able to present the gospel, the Biblical worldview, and the importance of that worldview to the science, economics, and policy of climate change, both in his public speeches and in one-on-one conversations. Sharing the gospel is the most important work we do!
If you would like to book a speaker for your church, school, or conference, or suggest that we attend a conference, we’d love to hear from you! Contact Megan@cornwallalliance.org with your requests and suggestions.
