Cornwall’s Dr. Roy Spencer Tells Tucker Carlson: Climate Change Is Not Causing More Hurricanes

by Megan (Toombs) Kinard

September 18, 2018

Cornwall Alliance for the Stewardship of Creation Senior Fellow Dr. Roy W. Spencer set the record straight about hurricanes Friday night on Tucker Carlson’s Fox News talk show.

One of Dr. Spencer’s main points in the interview was, as his graph (at right) showed, that the number of intense hurricanes making landfall in the United States has decreased by 50 percent since the 1930’s and 1940’s. That’s contrary to the expectations of global warming alarmists like Al Gore and Michael Mann, who, depending on computer climate models rather than empirical (observational) evidence (the hallmark of sound science), predict that global warming should fuel more and stronger hurricanes.

Watch the interview to learn the facts!

Dr. Roy Spencer, Ph.D., is Principal Research Scientist in Climatology in the University of Alabama’s National Space Science & Technology Center. When he worked at NASA’s Marshall Space Flight Center, he and Dr. John Christy, who heads the NSSTC, jointly received NASA’s Exceptional Scientific Achievement Medal for their global temperature monitoring work with satellites. His work with NASA continues as the U.S. Science Team leader for the Advanced Microwave Scanning Radiometer flying on NASA’s Aqua satellite—the source of  the world’s most reliable global temperature data since its inception in late 1978.

Dr. Spencer has been a Senior Fellow of The Cornwall Alliance since we began in 2005. He is a co-author of several of our major research papers on climate change:

  • An Examination of the Scientific, Ethical and, Theological Implications of Climate Change Policy, with Paul K. Driessen, Esq.
and Cornwall Founder and National Spokesman Dr. E. Calvin Beisner.
  • A Call to Truth, Prudence, and Protection of the Poor: An Evangelical Response to Global Warming, with Dr. Beisner, Mr. Driessen, and Dr. Ross McKitrick, Ph.D.
  • A Renewed Call to Truth, Prudence, and Protection of the Poor: An Evangelical Examination of the Theology, Science, and Economics of Global Warming, with 28 other contributing writers and reviewers.

He is also the author of several books on climate change, including

  • Global Warming Skepticism for Busy People, of which Cornwall Alliance will publish the print edition soon;
  • An Inconvenient Deception: How Al Gore Distorts Climate Science and Energy Policy, which was an Amazon best seller in environment, nature, science, and mathematics for several months after it was published last year, and of which Cornwall Alliance publishes the print edition.
  • A Guide to Understanding Global Temperature Data, also published by the Cornwall Alliance.
  • Inevitable Disaster: Why Hurricanes Can’t Be Blamed on Global Warming.
  • The Great Global Warming Blunder: How Mother Nature Fooled the World’s Top Climate Scientists.
  • Climate Confusion: How Global Warming Hysteria Leads to Bad Science, Pandering Politicians and Misguided Policies that Hurt the Poor.
  • The Bad Science and Bad Policy of Obama’s Global Warming Agenda.

His research has been supported entirely by U.S. government agencies: the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA), the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), and the Department of Energy (DOE). You can learn more about and from him by reading his blog at www.drroyspencer.com.
