Somewhere online yours truly posted a comment about global warming that stirred one of the faithful. Faithful global warming believer, that is.
The true believer sent me an email that demanded:
Please don’t ever write about a subject you are so hopelessly uneducated in ever again, and if you do, do the courtesy to your unfortunate reader of providing sources.
For the umpteenth time I had been shouted down by one of the faithful “warmists,” as I have referred to them for years.
What follows is yours truly’s email response, which others might find instructive…
At least you said “please.” But you still exhibit the arrogance of the global warming alarmist crowd. “Shut up!” they reason.
There’s nothing scientific about shouting down, or even asking nicely (please), for those you disagree with to stop expressing their viewpoints. Yet, warmists insist no further discussion is permitted because the global warming “science” is “settled.”
What are they afraid of? Is their truth so fragile it can’t abide a challenge? To ask that question is to answer it.
Refusing to hear challenges is the antithesis of science. Science is never “settled,” despite what Al Gore tells you. To establish validity, every legitimate scientific theory is required to be subjected to challenge, questioning and demands for proof. Global warming pseudo-science fails those tests.
You called me “so hopelessly uneducated,” presumably referring to my lack of qualifications for speaking about global warming. Well, I may not have your learned background (see how I give you the benefit of the doubt), but I’ve been writing on global warming alarmism for more than 20 years.
I own 76 books on the subject, give or take a paperback or two, and have read them all. I conservatively estimate the articles, columns, monographs and research papers I’ve read and saved in digital form on my computer to number no less than 3,567. Those are just the ones I’ve saved.
My guess is I’ve personally written upwards of 100 columns and articles on global warming published in newspapers and on websites, and have engaged in uncountable hours of interviews and discussions with scientists, researchers, politicians, advocates and critics over 20 years.
By the way, what’s your expertise on the subject? Or do you just parrot Al Gore?
If you had been paying attention during the last 20 years you would have noticed as I have that contrary to global warming theory’s predictions, temperatures have NOT dramatically increased even though CO2 emissions dramatically soared.
According to the theory, we should be substantially hotter than we were 20 years ago, but temperatures have remained essentially flat. Whatever scant increase there may have been is well within the margin of error—and the error in measuring global temperatures can be vast, considering the haphazard, imprecise means employed.
(By the way, whatever happened to those dozens of eastern Russian measuring stations that recorded reliably low temperatures and drove the average down? They aren’t used any more. Ask yourself why.)
The failure to live up to repeated predictions of extremely high temperature increases is a real life scientific proof of the failure of global warming theory.
The only places the predicted temperatures ever have been recorded has been in the computer models that predict them. Garbage in, garbage out.
Incidentally, is it just a coincidence that the global warming crowd has kept its raw data from prying eyes? And in many cases “lost” the original research? Just a coincidence? How scientific is that? Would you rely on cancer medicine researched in such a way?
Isn’t it also curious that raw temperatures are “adjusted” by some mystical formula to “correct” for “distortions,” and that the formula isn’t shared? Is that how you measure your kids’ height? Get the yardstick out, then add or subtract inches to get the desired result?
You demanded, in that gracious way warmists have, that I either stop writing on the subject or provide sources if I continue.
I’m delighted to provide just a snippet of sources that you will find illuminating—if you take the time to read them. Why do I doubt that you will? Maybe because you refuse to hear any dissent from the Gaia worship of the Church of Global Warming?
I call it that because any pseudoscience that demands challenges to the faith be silenced isn’t science at all. It’s religion, and a pretty scary brand of fundamentalism.
Those who know the global warming scare has to rely on faith for anyone to believe in it, but don’t believe it themselves, yet still want to cash in, continue to play along with the fraud. Why? To advance political and economic goals—not scientific or ecological goals. Think Jerry Brown.
Contrary to the alarmists’ claims, global warming or even if you water it down to “climate change,” has never been proved to be a cause of extreme weather, hurricanes or droughts. The real science experts who specialize in those phenomena have found no cause-and-effect relationship.
Finally, how do you think Al Gore became a multi-millionaire? His government pension?
Global warming has never been about the earth getting warmer. It’s always been about control and money—their control and our money. How many trillions of dollars does the IPCC want us to pony up?
Al got his piece of that pie, even though he predicted a decade ago that the Arctic would be ice free in five years. How’d that work out? Just like all the other predictions.
I hope this has been helpful.

This is brilliant and full of common sense. I will use it in the future to respond to my global warming alarmist friends in the future.
Great job.

I respectfully would direct folks to read Michael Crichton’s book “State of Fear”, an early call to reason about the climate scare, and the underhanded and nefarious tactics of those pushing any agenda for $$$$$$$$$$.
Mark Landsbaum says
Crichton was prescient.
Bill Raymond, Marine Geologist (MS) says
Mark, you are not alone. I got a “Go F*** yourself from a warmist to whom I sent solar data supporting my denier status. At least our president is calling it a hoax. Keep the faith.
