Some friends have wondered why I haven’t blogged in response to Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez’s claim that “The world is going to end in 12 years if we don’t address climate change.”
It’s because some claims are so absurd they need no response.

Amen!
Does AOC realise that there have been “the world will end in x years if we don’t stop our CO2 emissions” within her lifetime that have expired and been falsified? In either late 2000 or early 2001 I had a discussion with my brother about how the scientists were saying that we only had 15 more years unless we changed our ways. Here we are now, 18 years later, and we’re still here. No climatic doom has swept us away in a tsunami of rising sea level (even the “doomed” Maldives are still above water). No climatic doom has baked us like a Sunday roast under the notoriously missing tropical troposphere hot spot. No climatic doom has blown or washed us away in increasing frequency of cyclones/hurricanes and floods. Instead, the world is more green because plant life is extending into once arid land. Crop yields are higher than can be expected from the effect of fertiliser alone. There’s far more technology (including vital medical diagnostics and treatments) available because of fossil fuel use. Will the world *really* end in 12 years if we don’t drastically cut CO2 emissions now? Well, we have a lot more proof now that the world *won’t* end in climatic doom than we had 19 years ago. AOC is just another alarmist, spreading the latest fad doomsday cult: man-made global warming. Or, perhaps I should call it “Mann-made global warming.”
