Introducing our New (and Not-so-New) Podcast

We’re excited to announce a new chapter for the Cornwall Alliance podcast. After several years under the title Created to Reign, the show is relaunching with a new name: Sanity Check.

The change reflects something simple but important—our desire to bring clarity, reason, and careful thinking back into conversations about the environment, economics, and human flourishing.

In science, engineering, and finance, a sanity check is a quick test used to confirm that a result is reasonable before moving forward. Scientists use it to make sure their models produce plausible outcomes. Systems engineers use it to verify that a calculation or design makes sense before committing resources. In finance, analysts perform sanity checks to confirm that projections and assumptions are grounded in reality.

In everyday language, the phrase has a similar meaning. A sanity check is a moment of stepping back and asking: Does this actually make sense? Are the claims we’re hearing supported by evidence? Have we overlooked simpler explanations?

That spirit captures exactly what we hope this podcast will do.

Public conversations about climate, energy, economics, and development are often dominated by alarmism, political talking points, or sweeping claims that are rarely examined carefully. In some corners, debate has been replaced by hysteria. In others, legitimate questions are dismissed outright. Occasionally, the response swings the other way into speculation or conspiracy thinking.

We believe there is a better way.

As Christians, we believe human beings are endowed by their Creator with reason. When the Great Commandment calls us to love God with all our heart, soul, mind, and strength, it requires that we love Him not just emotionally but also intellectually Using that reason well—seeking truth, weighing evidence, testing claims—is part of our responsibility as stewards of creation and neighbors to one another.

That conviction shapes everything we hope to do through Sanity Check. Our goal is to move conversations away from emotional reactions and toward careful thinking: rational arguments grounded in Biblical first principles, informed by sound economics, and attentive to observable facts about the world.

At the same time, the new name gives us an opportunity to correct something we learned over time with our previous title. Created to Reign came from an important Biblical concept about human stewardship, but the phrase could be difficult for newcomers to understand without explanation. It also didn’t communicate clearly what the podcast was about, particularly for younger audiences encountering our work for the first time.

The new name is more direct. It signals what listeners can expect: thoughtful examination of claims, careful reasoning, and a willingness to ask hard questions.

What’s changing, then, is primarily the branding and accessibility. What isn’t changing is the heart of the project. We remain committed to the same mission—to defend sound stewardship of creation, to engage environmental and economic questions seriously and with an emphasis on the social and material conditions necessary for whole societies to rise and stay out of poverty, and to do so from a perspective rooted in Biblical truth and intellectual honesty.

We’re also making this change as part of a broader effort to reach the next generation while continuing to serve the longtime supporters who have walked with us for years. The goal is to bridge that gap: clear communication for new listeners without sacrificing depth or conviction.

We’re grateful for everyone who has supported the podcast so far, and we’re excited about what’s ahead.

If you haven’t already, subscribe to Sanity Check on your favorite podcast platform, share it with a friend, and stay tuned—there’s much more to come
