Join Governors Urging Obama to Adopt Sane Energy and Environment Policy!

by E. Calvin Beisner

June 26, 2014

The governors of nine states recently wrote an excellent letter to President Barack Hussein Obama urging him to “pursue a pragmatic energy policy that balances our nation’s economic needs, energy security, and environmental quality objectives.”

The Cornwall Alliance has been trumpeting this message for years. It’s great to see these governors embracing it.

Pointing out that new breakthroughs in energy production in America have saved the average American household nearly $1,000 a year, the governors add that removal of federal obstacles to production would result in even more savings. But they also write that his “proposed rules for regulating greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions from existing power plants and redefining the Waters of the United States (WOTUS) would unnecessarily expand federal authority over the States in energy policymaking and risk undermining our success.”

The governors say “millions of jobs will be lost and billions of dollars will be spent over the coming decades in an effort to comply with these and other federal regulations. And those numbers stand to increase with every tightening of those standards – hitting particularly hard working families, poor, and elderly.”

“Perhaps most disturbing,” they add, “is the fact that your Administration is content to force Americans to bear these substantial costs where there are highly questionable associated environmental benefits. In fact, your EPA Administrator admitted during testimony to the U.S. Senate that there would be no climate mitigation benefits to America pursuing unilateral action.”

You can read the governors’ full letter here.

While it’s good to see these nine governors standing up for this message, more need to.

What can you do? Three things:

First, print a copy of the governors’ letter and mail it to your own governor with your own letter requesting that he or she sign it, too. Your letter can have more impact if your friends sign it, too!

Second, pray for us. We’re almost finished constructing our totally redesigned, much more user-friendly website. You’ll love it when you see it, and we’ll let you know as soon as it launches. Pray that God will use this to reach hundreds of times more people than we’ve ever reached before. And that’s just one of many projects we’re working on, including

  • a major new report about how to protect the poor from unwise climate policy;
  • a chapter refuting the charge that the free market is bad for the environment for a forthcoming book by our friends at the Institute for Faith, Work, and Economics;
  • expanding our outreach through more talk show appearances and articles published in newspapers, magazines, and websites;
  • preparing for a major public debate, scheduled for next spring, with one of the world’s best-known advocates of climate alarmism;
  • producing an evangelism and discipleship training program specially aimed at communicating the gospel to the millions of young people being led astray by the false gospel, false ethics, and false theology so common to the environmental movement;
  • and more.

The Apostle Paul asked the Ephesian believers to pray for him, that he might open his mouth boldly to proclaim the gospel (Ephesians 6:19). We need you to pray for us likewise.

Third, become a monthly donor to the Cornwall Alliance to help us with our ongoing ministry costs, as well as projects like those just named.

As a monthly donor, you’ll automatically receive whatever free thank-you gift we offer without having to request it or make an extra donation. You’ll also have the satisfaction of knowing you’re helping us plan for the future—enabling us to budget for costly research and educational projects for which predictable long-term cash flow is crucial.
