On March 21, 2023, Professor Legates gave a presentation on climate change to the Delaware Electric Car Mandate Town Hall Meeting at the South Coastal Library in Bethany Beach, Delaware. The meeting was sponsored by the Delaware GOP. Attendance was about 350 people and was standing room only. Delaware is planning to adopt the California standards for air quality by phasing in electric cars by 2035. However, a bill currently in the legislature will require a reduction of carbon dioxide emissions of 50% by 2030 and net-zero (i.e., a total reduction) by 2050. Therefore, the electric car mandate is really being driven by a reduction of carbon dioxide emissions.
