It’s a crying shame that BP, which along with ExxonMobil and other major oil companies once made up the “Seven Sisters,” has again let itself be mau-maued to the extent of caving in to demands by the Sierra Club, Friends of the Earth, and other organizations constituting Big Enviro. It announced in February that it “is leaving the American Fuel & Petrochemical Manufacturers, a lobby group for the U.S. oil and petrochemicals sector, and the Western States Petroleum Association, the largest and most powerful corporate lobbying group in California.”
This, despite the fact there has never been solid confirmation that weather-related events connect to CO2 concentrations, let alone the anthropogenic component contributed from fossil fuel combustion.
None, zero, nada, of the recent weather events are unprecedented within the scale of recent past centuries. Since climate had been recovering from the Little Ice Ages of the late medieval period when alpine glaciers grew, the rebound in global temperature had been made to appear to be abnormal by Michael Mann’s discredited “Hockey Stick” temperature and the efforts of others.
But the cyclical behavior has repeated itself many times over during the 10,000 years since the last glacial age came to a close. As the Cornwall Alliance for the Stewardship of Creation has demonstrated time and again, floods, droughts, heat waves, record cold waves, tornadoes, hurricanes, what have you, are all part of Mother Nature’s mix. It is time to get over it.
