Trump’s Rollback of EPA Overreach: What No One is Talking About

by Roy W. Spencer

President Trump’s actions yesterday (March 28) to rein in the EPA on a number of fronts involves the usual tension between environment and prosperity. Trump has rightly asserted that we can have both a relatively clean environment and prosperity, but this falls on deaf ears in the environmental community. His actions are painted as Republican’s desire to harm your children, because a more polluted environment is claimed to be worse for human health and welfare than achieving a cleaner … [Read more...]

Trump’s Energy Independence Order: A Boon To America And The Environment

by E. Calvin Beisner

President Trump’s “Executive Order on Energy Independence” will save the American people hundreds of billions of dollars every year that would have been wasted on purely symbolic efforts under former President Obama’s “Clean Power Plan” and other regulations. Former President Barack Obama justified those regulations by claiming they would reduce global warming. But in reality, even according to his Environmental Protection Agency’s calculations, they would achieve no measurable reduction in … [Read more...]

Mother Theresa, the Environment, and the Poor in India

by Vijay Jayaraj

"Early this month, Mother Theresa was canonized as Saint Theresa by Pope Francis in a celebrated canonization ceremony in Vatican City. At this juncture, the same poor people in Calcutta (now Kolkata), whom she served with her life, face a different kind of threat to their lives—energy poverty caused by radical environmental policies. Exporting Oil Benefits All Americans and Global Poor

by Cornwall Alliance

For Immediate Release Burke, VA, October 9, 2015---Today the U.S. House of representatives passed legislation to end the ban on crude oil exports by a large bipartisan majority. This policy—a free-market policy—is good for the American people as a whole, but most significantly is good for those Americans, and people across the world, struggling to break the cycle of poverty. High energy prices have created a phenomenon called “energy poverty” in wealthy countries. But even more than the … [Read more...]

Europe’s Appetite for Wood Pellets Instead of Coal Threatens Forests

by E. Calvin Beisner

In its Quixotic quest to fight global warming, Europe is switching many coal-fired electric generating plants to wood pellets. Not a good idea. One of the most important advances for both humanity and the environment was our move from using wood as primary energy source to coal, natural gas, and oil. That led to a reversal of the deforestation that was happening all over the Northern Hemisphere as population rose. The higher-density fossil fuels allowed us to generate far more energy while … [Read more...]
