Sushi, Sake, and Coal: Japan’s Peculiar Response to the Climate Conundrum

by Vijay Jayaraj

We all know that the Japanese love their sushi. Japan is also famous for sake, a rice wine unique to the country. Lately, the Japanese have shown unrestrained love for a commodity that is increasingly demonized by climate groups: coal. Global warming alarmists blame coal for causing dangerous global warming. But the Japanese beg to differ. They have revived their love affair with coal. Why? That’s an interesting story. Soon after the Fukushima nuclear incident, public sentiment towards … [Read more...]

Changing Policies and Changing Climate: Will 2019 See the Demise of the Paris Agreement?

by Vijay Jayaraj

As the New Year begins, so does a new optimism. The world can look back at 2018 and be thankful for the few brave nations that stood up against the controversial Paris climate agreement, preventing the world from sliding further into an energy abyss. The agreement, since its inception in 2015, threatened to stall the global energy sector. But various events—both political and natural—during the last two years have weakened it. Here is a look back at some of the events in 2018 that exposed the … [Read more...]

Socialist “Green New Deal” Laughably Ridiculous

by Mark Landsbaum

We’re told global warming gives us only 5, 10, 12 more years (depending on the doomsayer) before the planet is irretrievably doomed. “Therefore, act now!” alarmists demand. Of course, they’ve been saying the same thing for 10, 20, 25 years.  It’s become impossible to spoof these people…  Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez’s socialist Green Deal is so laughably ridiculous even the leftist leadership of her own Democratic Party is running from it. Amid the backlash, she's apparently removed … [Read more...]

The Real Climate-Change Deniers: Exposing a Mainstream Myth

by Vijay Jayaraj

Lately, more focus has been on “climate-change deniers” than on the science of climate change. They are called science-denying, narrow-minded and selfish. They face ridicule every day. For example, in “The Depravity of Climate-Change Denial,” economist and New York Times columnist Paul Krugman argued that climate-change denial risks civilization for profit, ideology and ego. But who are the real “climate-change deniers”? (Or “climate deniers”? He uses the terms interchangeably.) Krugman … [Read more...]

Arctic Air Freezes United States: Global Cooling or Global Warming?

by Vijay Jayaraj

America’s Midwest is freezing. Mainstream media outlets had no option but to inform readers of the heavy snow and dangerous low temperatures. Scientific American called the current cooling “life-threatening.” CNN reported the “Coldest air in a generation.” Those headlines were not hype. Yesterday, nearly 40 percent of Americans woke up to wind chill warnings or advisories.  Over the next few days, 72 percent of the continental US population will experience below freezing … [Read more...]

‘No Country for Radicals’: India Fights Back Against Obstructionist Nonprofits

by Vijay Jayaraj

Mark Scialla, a freelance journalist based in the United States, was deported from India two weeks ago (editors note, this article was originally published on Jan. 17) for reportedly documenting a controversial case surrounding the operations of a copper smelting factory. So why are countries like India becoming increasingly wary of foreign elements and their growing involvement in domestic developmental issues? The news of the journalist’s deportation did not come as a surprise to many … [Read more...]

When Warming is Snow: Climate Alarmists’ Unpleasant Year

by Vijay Jayaraj

Climate change is undeniably the most talked about environmental issue today. But amidst claims of extreme warming, Earth’s climatic system surprised everyone by displaying an unpredictable pattern in the recent decades. Contrary to the exaggerated claims of global warming, temperatures remained stable in the last two decades, so low that they produced record lows in 2018. Is man-made global warming a paradox, or is it an exaggerated and inaccurate diagnosis of our climatic … [Read more...]

Baby, Is It Really Cold Outside? Christmas and Climate Change

by Vijay Jayaraj

“Baby, It’s Cold Outside” is an Academy Award-winning popular song by Frank Loesser and is regarded as a Christmas song because of its winter theme. It became popular in the 1940s. Recently it made news for wrong reasons. Some radio stations banned the holiday standard owing to pressure from feminists and the #MeToo movement, while others continued to play it. But I am more interested in the “cold winter” aspect that the song portrays. Is Christmas cold any longer? Did climate change make … [Read more...]

The Antarctic Odyssey: Secret Colonies, Melting Ice, and Climate Fairytales

by Vijay Jayaraj

In an era of climate fearmongering, the curious case of Antarctica has more to offer than mere fairytales and could play an important role in understanding our planet’s future. Sprawling over an area of 5.5 million square miles (and nearly 11 million square miles in winter), Antarctica is a virtually uninhabited, ice-covered landmass holding 90 percent of the ice on the planet. The continent has been of interest to explorers, scientists, and occasional tourists. The absence of human … [Read more...]
