On Tuesday, June 30, the US Supreme Court issued its decision on Michigan v. EPA, regarding the EPA’s regulation of mercury emissions from power plants. Burning coal and oil releases mercury into the atmosphere, which scientists have said can eventually be absorbed into fish and thereby wind up in humans who eat the fish. Excess mercury can cause neurological damage, though there is some doubt about how much of that can be attributed to U.S. power plants. In Michigan v. EPA, the EPA claimed … [Read more...]
Sustainable Churches
How can the government use the Church to spread the gospel of saving the planet? The EPA has just funded a little project to study the Christian Church in the US to answer just that question. As an anthropologist might scan the habits and thoughts of natives, the EPA is concerned to try to understand how one might channel the spiritual energies of the Christian Church to service an environmentalist agenda. The Church of Jesus Christ is on the defensive in the Western world, silenced by a love a … [Read more...]
Attacking fossil fuels doesn’t help the poor
In the debate over climate change, as in most things, it makes sense for politicians to appeal to a higher power. To wit: President Obama recently sent Environment Protection Agency administrator Gina McCarthy to visit the Vatican. Her mission was to convince papal officials, who are currently drafting a climate-change-focused encyclical for Pope Francis, that the president’s anti-climate change policies will help the poor and are thus a blueprint for similar international efforts. Hopefully … [Read more...]
American Lung Association in Cahoots with EPA
A new American Lung Association (ALA) television ad supports the Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) proposed new rule requiring a 30% reduction in CO2 emissions from power plants by 2030, pushing the lie that CO2 emissions are harmful to human health. The ALA ad, entitled “a mother’s instinct,” shows a child’s toy, a baby monitor, and a sleeping baby, then cuts to a shot of a power plant and states, “The Clean Air Act stops polluters from poisoning his air with arsenic, lead, and mercury. … [Read more...]
Conservative Evangelicals Supporting EPA’s CO2 Rule? Nothing Here But Dog Bites Man
Originally Published at Townhall.com Mystified by all the news lately that “conservative, evangelical Christians” have suddenly become very worried about climate change when none of your conservative, evangelical Christian friends have done so? Perplexed by reports that “conservative, evangelical Christians” spoke out in favor of the federal EPA’s new proposed rule requiring 30% cuts in CO2emissions from power plants by 2030? There’s a pretty easy explanation, the old newspaper editor’s rule … [Read more...]
Punish Your Enemy, Crush the Poor? EPA’s New CO2 Rule Turns Christian Ethics Upside Down
Originally Published in the Christian Post June 13, 2014 Jesus taught that we're to love our enemies and look after the poor. But a new rule from the Obama Administration seems to fly in the face of both mandates.By now practically everyone in America must know that the Environmental Protection Agency's (EPA) new proposed rule on carbon-dioxide emissions from power plants will cost a lot and achieve next to nothing.Cost? About $50 billion a year in lost production to the U.S. economy, … [Read more...]
VIDEO: Senator Sessions Grills EPA Nominee in Confirmation Hearing
One almost feels pity for Janet McCabe under grueling questioning by Senator Jeff Sessions (R-AL). It’s clear she knows—well, pretty much nothing relevant about the science of climate change. Maybe we shouldn’t expect much scientific knowledge from her, though. She’s not a scientist. (Remember that next time someone tries to silence you on global warming because you’re not a scientist.) She’s a lawyer and former environmental health advocate. But she’s nominated to be Assistant Administrator … [Read more...]
Justice, Schmustice – Don’t Let Green Progressives Steal a Good Term
“Last month, the EPA released for public comment an 81-page ‘Draft Technical Guidance for Assessing Environmental Justice in Regulatory Analysis,’” reports Cornwall Alliance Senior Fellow Dr. Steven F. Hayward. “… The ‘technical guidance’ lays out a detailed framework for assessing the demographic and racial impact of regulations, such as how to identify minority populations at higher health risk. ‘Minority, low-income, and indigenous populations experience greater exposure and disease burdens … [Read more...]
Congress’ Move to Stop the War on Coal Needed to Rescue Poor
Originally Published by Religion Today. God is certainly no respecter of man (Acts 10:34–35; Rom 2:9–11; Eph 6:8–9, etc.); He shows no favoritism, and neither does His son, Jesus Christ (Matt 22:16). But God does care for the weak, poor, timid, and defenseless—He is a compassionate God, and He expects the same of us (Deut 10:18). In America, as with the rest of the planet, coal plays a crucial role in energy production, yet it is under attack in America. The Environmental Protection Agency’s … [Read more...]
Leading Evangelicals Object to EPA Restrictions on Power Plant CO2 Emissions: Cornwall Alliance Counters Effort to Portray CO2 Emissions Regulations as “Pro-Life”
(June 26, 2012, Washington, D.C.)—More than 100 leading evangelical scientists, economists, theologians, and pastors endorsed a formal comment sent Monday by The Cornwall Alliance for the Stewardship of Creation to the United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) opposing its intent to put restrictions on carbon-dioxide emissions from electric power plants. The comment to EPA was in stark contrast to an effort by the Evangelical Environmental Network (EEN) to portray evangelicals as … [Read more...]
