Is the IPCC Salvageable? A Review of Donna Laframboise’s “The Delinquent Teenager Who was Mistaken for the World’s Top Climate Expert”

by Douglas Gregory

The United Nations Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) presents itself as a purely scientific organization tasked with providing unbiased assessments of the science of climate for use by policymakers. In reality, it is arbitrarily and selectively exclusive and agenda-driven, lacking discipline and accountability. In The Delinquent Teenager Who was Mistaken for the World’s Top Climate Expert, Canadian journalist Donna Laframboise makes a formidable case that the IPCC is biased and … [Read more...]

Four Bombshells in Next IPCC Report Undermine the Case for CAGW

by E. Calvin Beisner and Douglas Gregory

The United Nations Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) boldly declared in its Fourth Assessment Report (AR4) in 2007, “Most of the observed increase in global average temperatures [GAT] since the mid-20th century is very likely due to the observed increase in anthropogenic greenhouse gas [GHG] concentrations.” That conclusion rested in no small measure on another conclusion: variations in the Sun’s activity had little impact on global average temperature. On the basis of those two … [Read more...]

Evangelicals, Global Warming, and Intellectual Freedom and Integrity

by E. Calvin Beisner

The great Russian scientist and human rights activist Andrei Sakharov wisely said: "Intellectual freedom is essential to human society—freedom to obtain and distribute information, freedom for open-minded and unfearing debate, and freedom from pressure by officialdom and prejudices.the only guarantee against an infection of people by mass myths, which, in the hands of treacherous hypocrites and demagogues, can be transformed into bloody dictatorship. Freedom of thought is the only … [Read more...]

Our Climate Numbers Are a Big Old Mess

by Patrick J. Michaels

For years, records from surface thermometers showed a global warming trend beginning in the late 1970s. But temperatures sensed by satellites and weather balloons displayed no concurrent warming. These records have been revised a number of times, and I examined the two major revisions of these three records. They are the surface record from the United Nations' Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), the satellite-sensed temperatures originally published by University of Alabama's John … [Read more...]

New Summary for Policymakers: Nature, Not Human Activity, Rules the Climate

by Nongovernmental International Panel on Climate Change

A panel of climate change experts calling itself the Nongovernmental International Panel on Climate Change, headed by S. Fred Singer, this week released a report that competes head-on with the Summary for Policymakers of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change. The group's name highlights the fact that, contrary to common perceptions that it is an objective body of scientists, the IPCC comprises not only scientists but also government bureaucrats and policy shapers, and its Summary for … [Read more...]

Global Warming: Not so Fast

by Patrick J. Michaels

[Editor's note: This item is a little longer and more technical than most we carry, but reading it carefully can provide a good education in the science of the climate debate. --ECB] For more than 100 years, climate scientists have fully understood that if all else were held constant, an increase in the atmospheric concentration of carbon dioxide (CO2) would lead to an increase in the near-surface air temperatures. The problem becomes a lot more complicated in the real world when we consider … [Read more...]

Courts Should Confront Evidence on Global Warming

by S. Fred Singer

The Ninth U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals in San Francisco ruled late last year that the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration must consider the "risks of global warming" when setting gas-mileage standards for light trucks, minivans and SUVs. Central to the court's ruling was the claim that the federal agency, in violation of the National Environmental Policy Act, had ignored the benefits of reducing emissions of the greenhouse gas carbon dioxide. Whatever their legal acumen, Judge Betty … [Read more...]

Contaminated Data

by Ross McKitrick Ph.D.

[Editor's Note: We don't usually publish such a long excerpt as this, but this is a very important, and very substantive, article. It adds to the many reasons to question seriously the reliability and scientific objectivity of the UN Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change and the magnitude of recent warming.--ECB] Below is the famous graph of "global average surface temperature," or "global temperature" for short. The data come from thermometers around the world, but between the thermometer … [Read more...]

Dishonest Political Tampering with the Science on Global Warming

by Christopher Monckton of Brenchley

Originally Published at Heartland.org As a contributor to the IPCC’s 2007 report, I share the Nobel Peace Prize with Al Gore. Yet I and many of my peers in the British House of Lords - through our hereditary element the most independent-minded of lawmakers - profoundly disagree on fundamental scientific grounds with both the IPCC and my co-laureate’s alarmist movie An Inconvenient Truth, which won this year’s Oscar for Best Sci-Fi Comedy Horror. Two detailed investigations by Committees of the … [Read more...]

My Nobel Moment

by John Christy P.HD

Excerpted from an article originally published in the Wall Street Journal. Read the full article here. I'm sure the majority (but not all) of my IPCC colleagues cringe when I say this, but I see neither the developing catastrophe nor the smoking gun proving that human activity is to blame for most of the warming we see. Rather, I see a reliance on climate models (useful but never "proof") and the coincidence that changes in carbon dioxide and global temperatures have loose similarity over … [Read more...]
