The Rest of the Story: What Got Left on Newsy’s Cutting-Room Floor?

by Cornwall Alliance

On September 25, 2017, Newsy reporter Zach Tombs interviewed Cornwall Alliance Founder and National Spokesman Dr. E. Calvin Beisner. Parts of that interview were included in the 13-minute documentary video Revolt: The Kingdom and the Power, by Kevin Clancy, Kate Grumke, and Zach Toombs. [Note: There is no family connection between Zach Toombs and Cornwall Alliance Director of Communications Megan (Toombs) Kinard.] We hope many people who see that video will be interested to know what else Mr. … [Read more...]

Badgering Badgers on Climate Change

by E. Calvin Beisner

The Cap Times in Madison, Wisconsin, recently ran an article titled "Climate change is here: Wisconsin is seeing earlier springs, later falls, less snow and more floods," to which a Badger state resident called our attention. It's typical climate alarmist propaganda, and it bemoans what it considers the ignorance, or worse, of those who disagree: There are still people who refuse to see what the vast majority of scientists consider self-evident. The president has called climate change a … [Read more...]

A Great Disturbance in the Force?

by E. Calvin Beisner

Earlier today we posted a blog piece, "Cracks in the Empire's Armor Appear," by Dr. Roy W. Spencer, that commented humorously on how the media have responded to a new study by climate scientists who heretofore have reliably toed the alarmist line. Observing that actual warming trends are far smaller than those projected by the computer climate models on which the U.N. Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change and various national agencies depend, the authors concluded that therefore there's … [Read more...]

Cracks in the Empire’s Armor Appear

by Roy W. Spencer

Yesterday brought widespread news coverage of a new “study” published in Nature Geoscience which concludes that global warming has not been progressing as fast as expected, and that climate models might be a “little bit” wrong. (That the “little bit” is a factor of 2 or 3 is a fine point upon which we won’t quibble here.) I’m still trying to process my feelings about how the two authors, Myles Allen and Michael Grubb, might have been allowed to wander so far off the Empire’s (UN IPCC’s) … [Read more...]

A Global Warming Red Team Warning: Do NOT Strive for Consensus with the Blue Team

by Roy W. Spencer

Now that the idea of a global warming Red Team approach to help determine what our energy policy should be is gaining traction, it is important that we understand what that means to some of us who have been advocating it for over 10 years — and also what it doesn’t mean. The Red Team approach has been used for many years in private industry, DoD, and the intelligence community to examine very costly decisions and programs in a purposely adversarial way…to ask, what if we are wrong about a … [Read more...]

A Potpourri of Interesting Articles

by E. Calvin Beisner

Just been too busy to write much in the way of blog posts lately, but here are some articles I've thought particularly well worth sharing lately: Falling Sea Level: The Critical Factor in 2016 Great Barrier Reef Bleaching! by Jim Steele. "It is puzzling why the recent 2017 publication in Nature, Global Warming And Recurrent Mass Bleaching Of Corals by Hughes et al. ignored the most critical factor affecting the 2016 severe bleaching along the northern Great Barrier Reef – the regional fall … [Read more...]

Exiting the Paris Climate Agreement

by E. Calvin Beisner

Scant evidence of expected benefit means Scott Pruitt is right Washington Times, Monday, April 17, 2017 Environmental Protection Agency Administrator Scott Pruitt appeared on “Fox & Friends” April 13 and said, “Paris is something we really need to look at closely, because it’s something we need to exit, in my opinion.” Why? “It’s a bad deal for America. China and India had no obligations under the agreement until 2030, we front-loaded all of our costs, at the expense of … [Read more...]

Human-induced Global Warming—A Little, or a Lot?

by E. Calvin Beisner

Cornwall Alliance Senior Fellow Roy W. Spencer's monthly graph of global lower atmosphere temperature anomaly for March 2017 shows we're still cooling from the super-El Nino that so warmed 2016. Track your eye straight left from the farthest-right point and you'll see that there's little change from the anomalies of roughly 2001--2006, and of course we had significant downs and ups in between. John Christy in his February 2017 Global Temperature Report (go to … [Read more...]

Whom to Trust? NASA GISS, NASA, or Cornwall Alliance?

by E. Calvin Beisner

After citing a couple of Cornwall Alliance's articles in discussion, an educator friend got this response from one of his former students: The problem with referencing the Cornwall Alliance to discredit statistics from the NASA Goddard Institute for Space Studies is that one (the Cornwall Alliance) is a political advocacy organization with no scientific relevance while the other (NASA) has the weight of objective fact and science behind it. To me there is virtually no legitimate way one can … [Read more...]

A Month or Two Does Not a Long-term Trend Make

by E. Calvin Beisner

It was inevitable that when the current extra-strong El Nino resulted in some anomalously hot months the climate alarmists would declare victory, and, sure enough, when Drs. John Christy and Roy Spencer of University of Alabama Huntsville announced that the satellite global temperature data showed February the hottest month in the satellite record (which goes all the way back to the practically prehistoric year of 1979!), they did. One example among many: Mary Papenfuss's article in … [Read more...]
