Low Climate Sensitivity Makes Fighting Global Warming Unwise

by E. Calvin Beisner

To achieve the IPCC’s 3˚ “best estimate” of warming from doubled CO2 since the Industrial Revolution by the end of this century, GAT would have to rise another 2.593˚ in the remaining 63.5 years, a rate of 0.41˚ per decade, which is 3.7 times as fast as the observed rate so far. To achieve the 2˚ lower bound claimed for over 20 years, GAT would have to rise two-and-a-quarter times as fast as the observed rate. Even to reach the 1.5˚ the IPCC now claims is the lower bound, GAT would have to rise … [Read more...]

A Mere Couple of Degrees, a Mere Single Thermometer–and a Matter of Integrity

by E. Calvin Beisner

Climatologist Patrick Michaels detected an error in the temperature record at Reagan National Airport recently, and reported it to the Washington Post's Capital Weather Gang, which confirmed the error and duly reported it to the National Weather Service, which acknowledged the error and replaced the instrument (which for the last year and a half has been reading 1.7 degrees F too high). So far so good. But then, as Michaels reports and comments: ... the National Weather Service told the Capital … [Read more...]

Is NOAA Lying to US (and Us) about US Climate History?

by E. Calvin Beisner

In an article titled "The 'Trick' to Controlling the Climate Agenda," energy physicist Michael W. Brakey accuses the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration of systematically falsifying historical temperature data to create the appearance of more warming than has actually happened. His argument: NOAA has applied an algorithm (a bit of computer code that applies itself repeatedly to a set of data) that systematically lowers observed temperature data more and more the farther back into … [Read more...]

NOAA Seeks to Expand Federal Oversight of Hawaiian Waters: New plan will limit use of Hawaiian coastal waters by surfers, fishermen and tourists

by David Shormann

With the incredible recovery of humpback whales, NOAA recently proposed to delist them as an endangered species. The logical follow-up step is to dismantle the Hawaiian Islands Humpback Whale National Marine Sanctuary. Instead, NOAA is moving forward with a 24 million dollar proposal to expand their focus to much more than whales, while increasing regulations and restricting use and enjoyment of areas within the revised sanctuary boundaries. Located mostly in state waters, the current … [Read more...]

Humpback Whales Ignore Global Warming Hype

by David Shormann

NOAA recently proposed removing most of the world’s humpback whales from the endangered species list, and for good reason. Whales are back. With many species hunted nearly to extinction at the turn of the 20th Century, a number of factors are responsible for their incredible comeback. While rarely mentioned, one of the biggest factors in whale recovery is economic. As E. Calvin Beisner, Ph.D., mentions in the documentary BLUE, nobody is concerned with running out of whale oil anymore, but … [Read more...]

Obama Budget Includes Wish List for Climate Change Spending

by Megan (Toombs) Kinard

While the United States is in debt $17.5 trillion, the Obama Administration proposes a budget that increases spending! Tuesday, March 4, President Obama revealed his Fiscal Year 2015 Budget, his wish-list for next year. It has already been derided by the Republican-controlled House of Representatives, but that doesn’t make it irrelevant. It signals the goals of the Obama Administration. Included in the $3.9 trillion budget was $10.8 billion earmarked for climate change-related initiatives in … [Read more...]

How Not To Measure Temperature: Los Angeles

by Anthony Watts

[Editor's note: This is REALLY FUN READING. Don't miss it. It explains creatively, with good humor but deadly serious, one among hundreds of examples of the kinds of actions that taint temperature records not just in America but all around the world.--ECB] This is the city. Los Angeles, California. I study weather stations here. I carry a thermometer. My name’s Anthony. The story you are about to see is true; the names have been changed to protect the innocent. The day was Monday, March 24th, … [Read more...]
