2019 the Third Least-Chilly in the Satellite Temperature Record

by Roy W. Spencer

It’s that time of year again, when we are subjected to exaggerated climate claims such as in this Forbes article, 2019 Wraps Up The Hottest Decade In Recorded Human History. Given that the global average surface temperature is about 60 deg. F, and most of the climate protesters we see in the news are wearing more clothing than the average Key West bar patron, I would think that journalists striving for accuracy would use a more accurate term than “hottest”.So, I am announcing that … [Read more...]

Fox News Quotes Cornwall Scholars against “Five most over-the-top climate warnings”

by E. Calvin Beisner

Maxim Lott at Fox News lists 5 "most over-the-top climate warnings," and in discussing them he quotes two Cornwall Alliance network scholars. The five warnings---all bogus---are that:Warming causes declining human birth rates (Morning Consult). We have "12 years left to live" because of it (Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez---and lots of her acolytes in and out of Congress).Warming causes more tornadoes (Ocasio-Cortez, Al Gore, and others).Warming causes Indian tigers to eat more people (website "The … [Read more...]

Ocasio-Cortez’s Green New Deal wouldn’t slow climate change, but your electricity costs would skyrocket

by Roy W. Spencer

Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez’s Green New Deal would require Americans to rely on unreliable solar and wind energy that would raise electric bills by several hundred percent for every family and business, hit us with power blackouts and brownouts, worsen poverty and do nothing to slow climate change.Yes, you read that right. Even the drastic, unrealistic and multitrillion-dollar energy schemes in the Green New Deal would have no measureable impact on global … [Read more...]

Are We “Lukewarmers”?

by E. Calvin Beisner

A friend of the Cornwall Alliance wrote us recently, saying: I've just read Roy Spencer's Global Warming Skepticism Busy People, and I am a little surprised at how much he concedes to the alarmists, e.g., there is warming, it is partially anthropogenic, a majority of scientists do believe in anthropogenic warming, a rise of 5 degrees Centigrade would be a problem, etc. Are these all positions with which Cornwall Alliance agrees?  Roy describes himself early in the book as a "lukewarmer."  Is … [Read more...]

Did Hurricanes Florence and Michael Provide New Evidence for Manmade Global Warming?

by E. Calvin Beisner

Apparently acting on the principle that you never let a good crisis go to waste, the Washington Post on October 18 published a breathless story titled "In North Carolina, hurricanes did what scientists could not: Convince Republicans that climate change is real." Tracy Jan, a young reporter covering "the intersection of race and the economy," which obviously qualifies her to write about the complexities of global climatology, led her story this way: It took a giant laurel oak puncturing … [Read more...]

Cornwall’s Dr. Roy Spencer Tells Tucker Carlson: Climate Change Is Not Causing More Hurricanes

by Megan (Toombs) Kinard

Cornwall Alliance for the Stewardship of Creation Senior Fellow Dr. Roy W. Spencer set the record straight about hurricanes Friday night on Tucker Carlson's Fox News talk show. One of Dr. Spencer's main points in the interview was, as his graph (at right) showed, that the number of intense hurricanes making landfall in the United States has decreased by 50 percent since the 1930's and 1940's. That's contrary to the expectations of global warming alarmists like Al Gore and Michael Mann, who, … [Read more...]

Pray for People in Hurricane Florence’s Path—But Don’t Fall Prey to Alarmist Rhetoric

by E. Calvin Beisner

We should all be praying for those in the path of Hurricane Florence, regardless whether she turns out catastrophic or only (as hurricanes go) a relatively minor problem, and those in her path should be taking all sensible steps to shield themselves from harm, while others prepare to help quickly in the aftermath. At the same time, we should not allow climate-change alarmists to distort the facts by claiming that recent global warming--manmade or otherwise--has caused more frequent or more … [Read more...]

How Do Hard Data and Computer Climate Models’ Dire Predictions Compare?

by E. Calvin Beisner

Nobel Prize-winning physicist Richard Feynman explained “the key to science” this way: In general we look for a new law by the following process. First we guess it. Then we compute the consequences of the guess to see what would be implied if this law that we guessed is right. Then we compare the result of the computation to nature, with experiment or experience, compare it directly with observation, to see if it works. If it disagrees with experiment it is wrong. In that simple statement is … [Read more...]

What’s a “Climate Skeptic”?

by E. Calvin Beisner

In his recent article “Four Reasons Alarmists Are Wrong on Climate Change,” Cornwall Alliance Research Associate for Developing Countries Vijay Jayaraj distinguished what, following widespread usage, he called climate-change alarmists, deniers, and skeptics. The “alarmists” generally think that human emissions of carbon dioxide (and other greenhouse gases) are driving global warming so rapid and eventually of such great magnitude as to be dangerous or even catastrophic and that the appropriate … [Read more...]

Climate Alarmist Consensus—About to Shatter?

by E. Calvin Beisner

Is this the End of the Beginning, or the Beginning of the End? On November 10, 1942, after British and Commonwealth forces defeated the Germans and Italians at the Second Battle of El Alamein, taking nearly 30,000 prisoners, Winston Churchill told the British Parliament, “Now this is not the end. It is not even the beginning of the end. But it is, perhaps, the end of the beginning.” In The Hinge of Fate, volume 3 of his marvelous 6-volume history of World War II, published eight years later, he … [Read more...]
