It’s not “code red for humanity.” The philosopher G.F. Hegel is notorious for having said that if facts contradict theory, then “um so schlimmer für die Fakten”—“so much the worse for the facts.” Not surprisingly, the idealist Hegel had a huge influence on another idealist philosopher, Karl Marx, whose “scientific socialism” was socialist but decidedly not scientific. Facts have never seemed to matter much to socialists—it’s theory that counts. Perhaps that underlies the propensity for … [Read more...]
Climate Scientists Admit Exaggerated Warming
Last week, a group of scientists sent shock waves through the climate-science community. They boldly pointed out that current climate models exaggerate greenhouse warming. In other words, they confirmed what climate skeptics have been arguing all along: that most computer climate models forecast unrealistic warming -- warming not observed anywhere in the real world. Could this be a turning point for climate science? Has the hitherto staunch resistance to any kind of scrutiny regarding the … [Read more...]
A Challenge to Evangelical Climate Scientist Katharine Hayhoe
Late last year someone sent me a link to Dr. Katharine Hayhoe’s column “I’m a Climate Scientist Who Believes in God. Hear Me Out.” It was published in the New York Times October 31, 2019. Dr. Hayhoe’s Ph.D. is in atmospheric science. But she teaches in the political science department at Texas Tech University. She criticizes evangelicals who disagree with her about the causes, magnitude, consequences, and appropriate responses to climate change, aka global warming. Hayhoe … [Read more...]
“Test all things.” Even the Cornwall Alliance? Yes!
"Bombshell Claim: Scientists Find 'Man-made Climate Change Doesn't Exist in Practice'." That was the headline on an article at ZeroHedge.com sent to me a few days ago by a friend. Naturally I was intrigued. I read the article, then clicked through to the paper on which it reported: "No Experimental Evidence for the Significant Anthropogenic Climate Change," by Finnish authors J. Kauippinen and P. Malmi, both of the Department of Physics and Astronomy at the University of Turku. Its … [Read more...]
The elementary error of physics that caused the global warming scare
[Editor's note: Lord Christopher Monckton of Brenchley, a British journalist and polymath who has been at the forefront of arguments against catastrophic anthropogenic global warming, prepared this document for submission as a brief to U.S. District Judge William Alsup in a case brought by San Francisco and Oakland against five major oil companies that seeks to hold the companies liable for damages from warming caused by the use of their products. It was first published at … [Read more...]
Great Victory for Freedom of Debate and Integrity of Science—Canadian Court Vindicates Climate Skeptic Timothy Ball
Dr. Timothy Ball, a climatologist and former professor at University of Winnipeg and outspoken critic of climate alarmism, won a huge victory in a Canadian court yesterday. As longtime friends of Tim's and admirers of his courageous work for the cause of truth and climate sanity, we at the Cornwall Alliance congratulate him. His son reported to Anthony Watts of WattsUpWithThat.com yesterday, "This morning the judge dismissed all charges in the lawsuit brought against Tim by BC Green Party … [Read more...]
Nuclear Engineer Reveals “Climate Consensus” as Anti-Scientific
Over at the American Nuclear Society's ANS Cafe blog, ANS Fellow and Adjunct Professor of Nuclear Engineering Dr. Ruth Weiner exposes the anti-scientific character of appealing to consensus to push climate alarmism: Scientific thought progresses as a result of skepticism about a consensus rather than by invocation of that consensus. The fallacy of the 97 percent is not that it was the wrong number or that the subject group was improperly identified, but that the phenomenon – that atmospheric … [Read more...]
Global Average Temperature Plummets! Tropical Temperature Fall Third-Biggest on Record!
Forgive the headline. We're mimicking the behavior of global warming alarmists. If we used their tactics, we'd proclaim this a major victory for climate realists. In reality, both a one-month drop of 0.15 deg. C in global temperature and a one-month drop of 0.38 deg. C in tropical temperature are stastically insignificant to long-term global temperature trends, even though the latter is indeed the third-biggest in the (satellite) record (which goes back a whole 39 years!). What is significant … [Read more...]
Global Warming Believers, Take Note: Real Science Doesn’t Shy from Challenges
Guest blog by Mark Landsbaum, reprinted from Barbwire.com with permission Somewhere online yours truly posted a comment about global warming that stirred one of the faithful. Faithful global warming believer, that is. The true believer sent me an email that demanded: Please don’t ever write about a subject you are so hopelessly uneducated in ever again, and if you do, do the courtesy to your unfortunate reader of providing sources. For the umpteenth time I had been shouted down by one of … [Read more...]
After 20 Years, No New Global Temperature Record
[The article below by Cornwall Alliance Senior Fellow Dr. Roy W. Spencer, reprinted from his blog by permission, reports that the linear warming trend from 1970--2017 was 0.13 deg. C per decade. The computer climate models on which the UN Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change, and the negotiators of the 2015 Paris climate agreement rely simulate a warming trend of 0.216 deg. C per decade, i.e., two-thirds faster than actually measured, and that … [Read more...]
