In Florida over the holidays, President Trump tweeted, “In the East, it could be the COLDEST New Year’s Eve on record. Perhaps we could use a little bit of that good old Global Warming that our Country, but not other countries, was going to pay TRILLIONS OF DOLLARS to protect against. Bundle up!” Al Gore—the leading global warming propagandist—fearing a collapse of his warming hypothesis, tweeted that the recent record lows are due to global warming. That drew biting derision from real … [Read more...]
Sydney Heat and “Bomb” Snowstorm: Pimped Out for Climate Change
It’s been an eventful weather week in some portions of the globe. In fact, it is always an eventful weather week – somewhere. But what really drives the narrative is when weather extremes — which always have, and always will, occur — happen to hit major metropolitan areas. Many people are already aware of the relentless guffawing resulting from Al Gore’s tweet that Michael Mann says the Northeast’s current cold wave is just what global warming predicts. (As I recall, Mann is a mathematician, … [Read more...]
WHILE THE WEST BURNS, NO ONE NOTICES
Twenty-nine years ago record drought and fires hit the West and no one seemed to notice. Frustrated, I sent query letters to the three largest East Coast newspapers, and to my surprise, The New York Times answered. My article on the West’s drought and fires ran in August 1988 in the New York Times Magazine and was syndicated and distributed world-wide. Here we are again. In many areas of the Northern Great Plains the 2017 drought and fires are worse. And again, the news media is hardly … [Read more...]
Why Houston Flooding Isn’t a Sign of Climate Change
[Editor’s note: Please continue to pray for the millions of people in Texas and elsewhere suffering seriously from the tremendous flooding brought by Hurricane Harvey. At the same time, don’t be led astray by claims that it’s caused by human-induced global warming. Cornwall Alliance Senior Fellow Dr. Roy W. Spencer, a NASA and University of Alabama climate scientist, explains why it isn’t in this article] In the context of climate change, is what we are seeing in Houston a new level of … [Read more...]
4,300 Days Since Last U.S. Major Hurricane Strike
Wednesday of this week will mark 4,300 days since the last major hurricane (Category 3 or stronger, 111-129 mph maximum sustained winds) made landfall in the U.S. That’s almost 12 years. The last major hurricane to make landfall in the U.S. was Wilma striking Florida on October 24, 2005, one of several strong hurricanes to hit the U.S. that year. The unusual hurricane activity in 2005 was a central focus of Al Gore’s 2006 movie, An Inconvenient Truth, in which Mr. Gore suggested 2005 was … [Read more...]
2014 as the Mildest Year: Why You Are Being Misled on Global Temperatures, OR: Why I Should Have Been an Engineer Rather than a Climate Scientist
I’ve been inundated with requests this past week to comment on the NOAA and NASA reports that 2014 was the “hottest” year on record. Since I was busy with a Japan space agency meeting in Tokyo, it has been difficult for me to formulate a quick response. Of course, I’ve addressed the “hottest year” claim before it ever came out, both here on October 21, and here on December 4. In the three decades I’ve been in the climate research business, it’s been clear that politics has been driving the … [Read more...]
Special Report: Did Global Warming Cause Massive Northeast Snowstorm?
As a boy I lived in Owego, in rural upstate New York just north of the Pennsylvania border about halfway to Ohio, in the late 1950s to mid-1960s. Our locale was more moderate in winter than Buffalo, both in temperature and in snowfall. Nonetheless, it was fairly common to have blizzards that would dump two to three feet of snow, sometimes more, in a day. (A foot of snow is, on average, equivalent to about an inch of rain. Even four or five inches of rain in a day is remarkable but by no means … [Read more...]

Flipping Out Over the Solar Flip?
Nowadays it seems we’re trained to be afraid. Reports that the sun’s magnetic field is flipping have caused not a few ripples of excitement. Some popular media report responsibly. Others play on fears, claiming that the magnetic field’s reversal means we’re in for some stormy weather. The good news? We’re not doomed. At just shy of 100 million miles away, our solar dance partner might seem too distant for relatively small events within it to have much impact on the earth. But the sun … [Read more...]
Few French Fried in 2006
In the history of global warming scare stories, the 2003 European heat wave was a landmark event—it was the first time that a rash of human deaths were specifically linked to global warming. Many of you probably recall that a widespread exceptionally hot and dry spell hit Western Europe in August, 2003. Depending on how you count the bodies, up to 35,000 people suffered premature death during this heat wave with the lions-share occurring in France, which happened to be heat wave ground zero. … [Read more...]
