Will Sea Levels Rise?

by Mark Landsbaum

March 18, 2019

There’s a lot of scaremongering by global warming alarmists who want your money and to control your lives.

One of the more popular scare stories is that global warming will make sea levels rise to the point that coastal cities will drown and islands disappear. Remember the ridiculous “documentary” by Al Gore? It won an Academy Award. Hollywood always has been better at fiction than fact.

Relax. In the next 100 years sea levels probably will rise 7 or 8 inches. Just as they have for hundreds of years. In fact, the rise in water levels has slowed down compared to olden times when seas actually did rise much more and much faster and in those days there were zero SUVs spewing CO2 into the atmosphere.

The mainstream press won’t bother to distinguish for you rising seas from sinking land masses. But science – unbiased science – does.

“Many cities along the Coastal Plain and Gulf Coast of the US are sinking from ground water extraction and, possibly, in the Gulf from oil extraction. Claiming the sinking is from sea level rise is similar to the captain of the Titanic claiming his ship sank because the seas rose,” says Ken Haapala, president, Science and Environmental Policy Project.

“The excuse hides the need to find alternatives to ground water extraction, such as desalination plants as being used in Carlsbad, California, based on Israeli technology.”

Catch that? Man has little to do with sea levels rising, but can have much to do with land sinking when he draws water out of the earth.

The fact is, “claims of dramatic increases in sea level rise are without hard evidence. They are based on speculation and models that are poorly tested,” as Haapala says.

The entire issue of even measuring sea level changes is problematic.

“The major issue is that due to shift from land to water and changing tides and wave action, satellite measurements cannot be calibrated using historic tidal gauges. Estimates taken in the middle of the oceans vary due to waves, weather patterns, long-term wind patterns, etc.,” according to Haapala.

The global warmists’ scare stories claim sea levels will rise five times the rate they have for several centuries. Be mindful. Since the scare campaign began, they haven’t yet. And rest assured, they won’t.

Don’t be scared. Don’t cave in to the fright lobby. Their motive isn’t to cool the earth or to keep you dry. It’s the same as it’s been since this global warming alarmism began grabbing headlines 30 years ago.

It’s always been about control and money. Their control and your money.
