Washington, DC Mayor Muriel Bowser thinks people worldwide have a “human right” to come to the United States, legally or illegally. Our nation’s capital proudly proclaimed itself a “sanctuary city” in 2016. “We celebrate our diversity and respect all DC residents,” the mayor said, “no matter their immigration status.” But when Arizona and Texas were overwhelmed by a million-plus illegal migrants – and their governors sent a couple thousand of them to Washington – she was outraged. They … [Read more...]
Science returns to the Middle Ages with a vengeance
Touring Britain's Cotswolds region in Gloucestershire, England, and beyond can be downright inspirational. Castles long ago conquered, now in ruins, recall a cold, hard past — a past that relied on the sun and wood for heat, coupled with wind and water for power. And mostly only feudal lords and royal gentry could comfortably afford even paltry luxuries on a regular basis. Today it's back to the future of medieval times with a vengeance and a modern twist. Not only are we moving … [Read more...]
Yes, It’s Hot—It’s Summer!
It is summer in the Northern Hemisphere, and America’s mainstream media once again are blaming summer heat waves on anthropogenic global warming. Are they right? We recognize that climate changes, because climate always changes. Characteristics of one year may make it warmer, or cooler, than other years. This year, we are experiencing our third consecutive year of La Niña—a substantial cooling of waters in the central Pacific Ocean due, in part, to an increase in winds across the tropical … [Read more...]
The “Green” Global Elites are Aiming for Total Food Control
The following is a guest article sourced from Generations.org. Image: Creative Commons under Unsplash The "green" global elites are aiming for total food control. Their power grab, which is now most evident in Holland, threatens the entire planet — including the United States. Guest host Adam McManus interviews Dr. Calvin Beisner, Founder of the Cornwall Alliance for the Stewardship of Creation about two disturbing articles in The New American by … [Read more...]
Should an Environmental Regulator Teach Old Laws to Do New Tricks?
Eight-and-a-half years ago, E&E News called Joseph Goffman a “law whisperer” because “His specialty is teaching an old law to do new tricks.” The epithet was well enough deserved that Harvard Law Today repeated it five years later. Now, the Senate Environment and Public Works Committee is considering Goffman’s nomination to become Assistant Administrator for Air and Radiation in the Environmental Protection Agency. What could possibly go wrong with a “law whisperer” in charge of EPA’s … [Read more...]
Inflation and “Inflation”
The federal Bureau of Labor Statistics reported today that year-on-year “inflation” through June was 9.1 percent, meaning the basket of goods constituting the “consumer price index” (CPI) that cost $100 a year ago cost $109.10 last month. That’s bad news, for several reasons. First, of course, it’s bad news because it means life gets tougher for everybody whose income isn’t enhanced by precisely those things that drive such “inflation”—meaning the vast majority of people. Second, it’s … [Read more...]
Sri Lanka: Canary in the Environmentalist Coal Mine
Last year the Cornwall Alliance reported on our blog that Sri Lanka was headed for serious trouble. Now, sadly, our prediction is coming true. The Associated Press (AP) calls Sri Lanka “a country hurtling towards bankruptcy, with hardly any money to import gasoline, milk, cooking gas and toilet paper.” In late June its prime minister said its economy had “collapsed.” Both he and President Gotabaya Rajapaksa agreed to resign in the face of mass protests that included crowds occupying their … [Read more...]
Testimony: “How the Biden Administration and the Global Anti-Fossil-Fuel Movement Caused an Energy Crisis and Inflated Our Cost of Living”
Today the House Freedom Caucus held an off-site hearing: “Addressing Bidenflation and Biden’s Energy Crisis.” I was a witness, along with former Texas Governor and Secretary of Energy Rick Perry, economist Stephen Moore, and Western Energy Alliance President Kathleen Sgamma. Here is the written testimony I submitted. You can watch my testimony, as well as my answers to all the Representatives’ questions, in the video below. In 2016, I testified in front of the Senate Environment and … [Read more...]
Biden’s Gas Tax Suspension: Meager Help and Deficit Spending
Today President Joe Biden called on Congress to pass legislation suspending the federal tax on gasoline for July through September, “to give Americans a little extra breathing room as they deal with the effects of Putin’s war in Ukraine.” Not Much Savings Put the emphasis on “little.” The average driver drives 1,125 miles per month, and the average car gets about 25 miles per gallon, so the average driver uses about 45 gallons per month. The federal gas tax is 18 cents per gallon. … [Read more...]
