So suggested a headline in Bloomberg News early last month. What to make of this? For one thing Bloomberg News can no longer be regarded as a sterling source for news after its owner has thrust himself into the 2020 Presidential race. Still the information in the piece needs some careful examination. Right out of the gate please notice that the site where the temperature record was broken is not the same as that where the photograph was taken dating to 2008. In material fact, the … [Read more...]
Are Little Quakes in Western Tennessee Precursors of “The Big One”?
The Raleigh, NC, News and Observer was on the case of “The Big One,” with a story February 4 about a cluster of tiny quakes in far western Tennessee. From the text of Ms. Simore Jasper's story I cannot find a reference to any quake larger than a magnitude 3. It remains a matter of conjecture whether the residents of Dyersburg, TN, actually felt any effects of a 2.7 or were inspired by the power of suggestion. The mentioned 1.3 quake is so weak that it could not “hit” anything at the … [Read more...]
Recommended Sources on Global Warming/Climate Change
People often ask us for recommendations of things to read or view to help them grasp the arguments over global warming. For instance, “What would be the best book/article which critiques the global warming hysteria?” Or “What’s a good short, simple thing to read about climate change?” Or “What should I give to my scientist friend that will show that serious climate scientists question the idea of catastrophic, anthropogenic global warming?” Many resources come to mind. Below are some … [Read more...]
“Fact checkers” who live in glass houses shouldn’t throw stones
Suppose I told you that Santa Claus lived in Santa Barbara. Now suppose you reported in an article that I told you Santa Claus lived in Santa Barbara. Now suppose some "fact checker" slammed you for falsely saying Santa Claus lived in Santa Barbara. Would the "fact checker" be right? Obviously not. Because you accurately reported what I told you. Now, if instead you had simply said, "Santa Claus lives in Santa Barbara," you'd have been factually wrong (since, as everyone knows, he lives … [Read more...]
Climate Alarmists Make Evangelical College Students the Bull’s Eye
For over a decade, evangelicals have been the most skeptical subset of the American population about claims of catastrophic, anthropogenic global warming (CAGW). Don’t count on their staying that way. Recently Physics World reported on an experiment conducted at three evangelical colleges to see how students’ views about global warming/climate change would shift if they viewed a professionally done one-hour presentation designed to persuade them that it’s real, mainly human-induced, … [Read more...]
What If Evangelical Students Heard More than One Side of the Global Warming Debate?
Two years ago, evangelical environmental law professor John Murdock wrote in First Things that in 2012 former Evangelical Environmental Network head Jim Ball, author of Global Warming and the Risen Lord, “speaking at the World Wildlife Fund in D.C., [proclaimed] it a ‘fool’s errand’ to try to reach the right side of the evangelical spectrum” with the message that human-induced global warming is real and dangerous enough to justify enormously costly policies to curb it. Lately some … [Read more...]
Fox News Quotes Cornwall Scholars against “Five most over-the-top climate warnings”
Maxim Lott at Fox News lists 5 "most over-the-top climate warnings," and in discussing them he quotes two Cornwall Alliance network scholars. The five warnings---all bogus---are that: Warming causes declining human birth rates (Morning Consult). We have "12 years left to live" because of it (Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez---and lots of her acolytes in and out of Congress).Warming causes more tornadoes (Ocasio-Cortez, Al Gore, and others).Warming causes Indian tigers to eat more people (website … [Read more...]
Five Reasons Why Christians Must Make Biblically Sound Earth Stewardship a Priority
1 Radical environmentalism, at its heart, is false religion. Biblical care for Creation sees God, people, and nature in proper relationship. By contrast, the core of secular environmentalism mirrors Romans 1:25, which says people “exchanged the truth of God for the lie, and worshipped and served the creature, rather than the Creator, who is blessed forever.” It results in worship of a false god. Even if it’s clothed in “Christian vocabulary,” this unbiblical worldview can lead to: Degrading … [Read more...]
11 Months and Counting—Wrapping our Heads around Florida’s Raging Red Tide
The latest red tide outbreak on Florida’s Gulf Coast, with its awful stench, is in its 11th straight month. The noxious bloom started in November 2017, and the latest reports from the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission before Hurricane Michael, whose effects we won’t know for some time, showed that the end was not near. Conditions change daily, even hourly. For example, the map below shows decreased red tide levels for Septemper 21–28 in Collier County. However, the morning of … [Read more...]
Can You Really Have Fun Debating Climate Change?
"Unsafe Space," dedicated to discussing serious issues in comedic fashion, did everyone a real service on January 22. It posted a panel discussion on climate change featuring scientists Jon Christensen (defending the alarmist view) and Willie Soon (defending the skeptics' view). It's a good discussion with plenty of give-and-take and at least a modicum of mutual respect. An abbreviated version in video is on YouTube, while the full version, audio only, is on Unsafe Space's own site (where … [Read more...]
