Climate Reality Forces Doomsday Alarmists to Restructure Warming Narrative

by Vijay Jayaraj

February 22, 2019

Whichever news media you subscribe to, you cannot miss the news about climate change. While climate alarmists claim that we are perilously close to doomsday, reality says otherwise.

Climate alarmists are desperate to redefine climate change after the severe winters of 2017–2018 and 2018–2019.

Let’s look at three of their most appalling attempts to conceal their errors.

Global Warming to Climate Change

Not very long ago, the alarmists’ buzzword was “global warming.” The term became less popular in the last ten years. Two magic words replaced it: “climate change.”

Why?

“Global warming” was the ideal term to create panic. It meant we were causing the earth to warm to dangerous levels that spelled doom.

But real-world data didn’t cooperate. Contrary to predictions, global temperature did not constantly rise. And polar ice mass rose and fell rather than consistently falling, as alarmists would have liked it to.

To ward off potential challenges, alarmists began popularizing the term “climate change.” The words enabled them to dismiss any cooling as insignificant.

Warm Weather Is Climate; Cold Weather Is, Well, Just Weather!

Climate alarmists are famous for their illogical use of the words “weather” and “climate.”

Whenever temperatures reach record highs, alarmists say they’re evidence of a warming climate. But when temperatures reach record lows, they dismiss them as mere weather.

The alarmists’ inconsistency stems from their desperate efforts to conceal the 18-year (1999–2017) stable temperature trend.

By calling cold winters and record lows mere weather, they eliminate the need to explain the marked failure of temperature to reach predicted levels.

Alarmists not only failed to acknowledge the 18-year lack of significant global warming. They also wrongly identified (short-term) weather events—like the El Niño-driven highs of 2016 and 2017—as (long-term) climate events.

Yes, short-term warming and cooling phases can occur within long-term climate trends in the opposite direction. A cold phase does not prove a long-term cooling trend. But neither does a warm phase prove a long-term warming trend.

A robust scientific diagnosis can be made only by studying the current climatic phase in relation to long-term trends. Instead, alarmists continue to make false claims regarding our future climate.

Global Warming Causes Global Cooling

In the recent past, alarmists claimed that snow would become “a thing of the past,” the Arctic would “melt completely,” and “winters will become milder.”

The last two winters exposed their blatant hypocrisy. Unable to explain the record low temperatures and snowfalls of those winters, alarmists backtracked on their previous claims.

They now claim that excess snow and severe winters are actually a sign of global warming!

There is no end to alarmists’ hypocrisy. First, “global warming” became “climate change.” Then “no snow” became “more snow.” Their word-play with “weather” and “climate” will continue as they try to keep their doomsday narrative alive.

Meanwhile, relax. Real-world temperatures show that humanity’s carbon dioxide emissions have little effect on global temperature. But they do cause improved plant growth, making more food for everybody.

So glad to read this. As of today Monday June 1st 2020 my crepe myrtles still have no blooms on them. Since we planted them about 10 or so years ago they have always begun blooming in late May. But this year not even one bloom which tells me this was a much cooler spring than I realized–probably the coolest in 10 years for where I live–South Carolina in the extreme northwest corner.
