Climate Strike: Instilling Fear and Creating a Scientific Void

by Vijay Jayaraj

October 3, 2020

People around the world participated in a climate strike on September 25, joining climate activist Greta Thunberg’s Fridays for Future “school strike” movement.

Protestors in Toronto blocked an intersection, while those in Moscow danced in their custom-made green shirts. In India, children protested in front of the ministry of environment, holding placards with dubious claims.

There were strikes even in Beirut, where the supposed danger from climate has been far less than other life-threatening factors.

Elated with the success of the organized strike, activist Thunberg tweeted, “What a huge success! With masks and socially distant, hundreds of thousands returned to the streets, demanding climate action, in over 3200 places on all continents, including Antarctica! The fight for a future doesn’t end here. This is just the beginning.”

Bravo! It is indeed a great success for those who organized a mass-scale, global event. However, the strike was a colossal failure if the intended aim was to create awareness about climate change.

The reason for that is simple: The school strike movement and its gazillion climate strikes barely speak about climate science. Instead, the protestors merely state their belief that climate catastrophe is imminent. Their attention is centered on fearmongering and vilifying conventional fossil fuel resources.

Clearly, the movement is not scientific. Often, the protestors’ claims do not cohere with the hard truths about climate and the changes in it. In fact, the protestors’ claims often stand in stark contrast to the actual climate.

Fake Claims and Flashy Headlines

Climate alarmists are known for their alarmist phrases, which are extraordinarily out of sync with reality. Thunberg, for example, says, “I want you to act as if our house is on fire. Because it is.” The truth is that our house, i.e., the earth, is not on fire.

The global average temperature (GAT) — a rough estimate of what scientists believe to be an indicator of overall climate on our planet — has shown no sign of dangerous increase in the past two decades.

In 2014, scientists from the United Nations Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) conceded that their forecasts about GAT were wrong and that there had been an unexpected slowdown in the warming rate between 2000 and 2014.

But that does not stop these climate alarmists and protestors from continuing their fear campaign. Climate protestors focus on climate predictions, not on the hard, observational data about the past.

Celebrities like Harrison Ford and politicians like Al Gore claim that “Time is running out on climate change.” Well, perhaps it is — but not in the sense they have in mind. Time is really running out on the catastrophic claims as global average temperature continues its long-term refusal to comply with the alarmists’ predictions.

CNN stated that the ongoing pandemic is the last chance for us to save the planet from climate doomsday.

Children participating in the climate strike say the future is theirs and the adults of today are destroying it by being insensitive towards climate change. They say a catastrophe is certain because “the scientists” say so. And just how do “the scientists” assert climate catastrophe is coming? By using computer climate models they claim are trustworthy.

However, satellite temperature observations indicate that much of the current rhetoric surrounding unprecedented warming has been exaggerated to give a false sense of alarmism.

A comprehensive analysis of computer climate models revealed that their predictions did not reflect changes in real-world temperatures and showed exaggerated warming levels. This was a fact that was testified at the U.S. House Committee on Science, Space & Technology in 2017.

The models have not improved since then. While the previous generation of models badly exaggerated warming, the new generation replacing them does even worse, producing 50% more surface warming than observed since 1979. They are in fact unreliable, showing unusually high temperature levels when compared to actual observations.

These models could not even capture the changes between 2000 and 2019. It is a pity that the entire alarmist movement relies on faulty models and their inaccurate predictions.

We are living in a world with excellent climate for human civilization. But our political and cultural stage has been hijacked by alarmist theories that rely on broken computer models.

The alarmist theory has been well popularized by the mainstream media, and a large section of the common public has been duped into taking the media’s claim for granted.

The final icing on the cake is the indoctrination of school-aged children to believe they have no future because of a climate catastrophe that is nowhere to be seen.

The more one inspects the climate-strike movement, the more one realizes the scientific void in it. It is a cultural movement with strong financial and political elements. The sooner it ends, the better for the millions of children who have fallen victim to this falsehood.
